I had tires replaced on my 2001 GS430 in May. At the time, I had the tire store do a full alignment. I had to take it back to them because the car didn't handle well. They rechecked it, improved it slightly, but it wasn't perfect.
I took the car into another tire dealer, they tell me they can't align it because after it is aligned, the traction control needs to be reset, and they can not do this since they don't have access to the computer???????
They tell me only a Lexus dealer can do an alignment on this car.
Before I call BS on this, I thought I would check with the people on this group.
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks
Bill
This is the first time I am hearing about traction control. I just had my car aligned yesterday and it came back maxed out on the camber on the passenger front. I should say that my car is lowered and it is fairly common without a camber kit on a lowered GS. But, once again, nobody ever told me about the reset on traction control. I think it is not even related, but I am not a mechanical engineer.
PS Another point to remember is that half of alignment shops like Sears Auto Center, Firestone, ect., use highschool kids to work on our cars which do not really know a lot about more complex cars/situations. It is sort of "you get what you pay for". $64.99 for highschool kid alignment or $100 for Lexus tech at a Lexus dealer. Just my two cents.
