Default What should I upgrade next? Rotors or Tail lights?

CL, I need your help.

I have 5 spoke rims so the factory brakes are right out in the open and get a little rusty everytime I wash the car.

The GS is a 98 so I still have the old style orange and red and white striped tail lights. I think the '01 lights give the car a newer cleaner look. emphasizes the body lines.

After parts and labor, it will cost about $500.00 to upgrade to Zinc coated Brembo rotors...

...and about $350.00 to do the lights. They will both be done soon but I can't decide which is more critical.

Thanks In Advance.

i would get the taillights because it really gives the back a butt lift. plus in the long run taillights last forever while rotors will need to be changed

i personally dont like slotted and cross drilled rotors, i like just cross drilled rotors... but still new taillights really brings out the GS more than just rotors u feel me? plus its cheaper to do taillights right? for an extra 115 u can get SS brakelines and from what everybody else says SS brakelines are worth it more than new rotors

darius my fellow modded xbox owner....

get the tails.....those knockoff wanna be BBK rotors will ultimately not stop the car better than the OEM...

if you don't NEED brakes, get the tails

if you need brakes, get the brakes

I also agree with the taillights but the rotors are a very close second, especially if you have custom wheels. The first mod I did to my GS was the taillights. I thought it was a huge improvement for not a lot of $. But when I got my wheels I went ahead and did the cross drilled rotors at the same time. I thought the stock rotors looked a little plain and thought the cross drilled added to the look of custom wheels. Maybe you could save up and get a BBK. That is my next upgrade as soon as I get my new wheels.

You are saying it will cost $500 to do the rotors alone? For that amount go ahead and do both the lights and rotors BUT you have to do the labor yourself. I got my cross-drilled Brembos for $217.50 shipped (TireRack) and my taillights for $300 something shipped from Japan

Rotor swaps are easy. If you are inexperienced then have someone experienced help you. I used new OEM pads with my rotors and there is a HUGE improvement over factory stuff. I did my SS lines yesterday and it made it even sweeter.

Go for the taillights.

I guess that if you start reading about brakes on CL, you soon want to get a BBK and spending money on C/D rotors would then be a wastage ...

Depends.

Would you rather people see lights that indicate you're stopping, or would you rather actually be stopping?

I vote rotors. Performance first.

You tailight people are what's wrong with America. Shallow bastards...

I voted tails but this sums it up for me.

For daily street driving, the C/D rotors are not going to give you any additional performance. You can upgrade to stainless steel lines and go to more aggressive pads to get better feel and performance, if that is what you are after. Just keep in mind that more aggressive pads will wear down your rotor more, potentially increase noise (grinding/squealing), and potentially increase dust.

If performance is not the immediate goal, get the tails and save up for a BBK.
