Default how long do stock brake pads last?

How many miles did/do you get on your stock brake pads? I've got 24400 miles on orig pads and was wondering if I should be worrying about them soon. Do our pads have those indicators that start to squeek when pads get low?
thanks
chuck

yea, i got about 29,000 on my fronts. They started making a grinding noise, so if they do have a wear indicator I didn't hear it.

Ok just to add your mileage may very due to driving habits.

Just take it to any dealership all will give you a free break inspection.

My rear brakes were gone at 32K (they sounded like stuck pigs) The front now have 41k but I will need to replace soon.

It's depending on your driving habit and the condition of your routine traffic( stop 'n go or mostly highway. The stock brake on my 01 GS with Atlanta's traffic, stop and go and mixed with some highway driving on my routine to work of 16 miles one way. My brake pads are about 40% remains on the front and 60% on the rear at 35K miles.

Speaking of rear pads, is anyone else startled by how small they are? They're little square things that seem hardly capable of slowing such a machine.

Camrys have much bigger pads in the back...and they don't weigh anything.

Your rear brakes are used mostly in light brakeing applications..
Front brakes do most of the work

You can eyeball the front pads without taking off the wheels to see (most rims). The rears, you will have to take off the wheels

Yeah I know...that's why I added the Camry comparison to justify my surprise... But it appears I'm thread hijacking...

That looks like about 60-65%.

You're good for many miles.

And those are factory pads, which have squealers on them, so you'll be unable to avoid getting new ones when it's time.

Had to change my fronts at a little past 30K. In order to get more miles on the new set, I'm trying to avoid using my brakes whenever possible.

I asked the dealer the very same thing. They told me that a combination of aggressive takeoffs
and vsc will cause more wear on the rear brakes. According to the tech, he stated its not unusual to see rears wearing out before the front on the GS model. Btw, this was before I had the 3.76 lsd. I've changed my driving habit to leaving vsc off when I'm in the mood for a fast getaway. Anyone else have rear brakes go before the front?
