Reverse Supra brake conversion? Loosing the TT 4pots?
 

I just noticed interesting trend on supraforum where people are trading their TT brake setups for NA ones?:)
What is actually happening? I wasn`t there for a while and I`m out of touch aparently. Anybody knows?

I'm assuming this is for drag racing since downgrading your brakes for auto-x or similar is not exactly smart. With that established:

Why would you need slicks on the front of your Supra?

Only thing that comes to my mind is that, it's a trend...

i don't think they're trading their front brakes...only the rears to fit big slicks in the back...

They trade their fronts to safely run the skinnies up front. With the slicks its almost necessary to go with the skinnies up front for stability and to save rotating weight. Bias ply skinnies ensure the most stability.
When going with 16" rear wheels like the rx-7 stock wheels for slicks all that is needed is a little shaving of the rear caliper to get them to fit. If going with a 15" slick, they would need to go with the NA rears.
As for the fronts the minimum to clear the front brakes is 16" and the only company that makes them in the right fitment is CCW and those can get costly real quickly. Also on the note of the 16" CCW skinnies, they require a pretty hefty spacer to get them to clear since the disc is very shallow on them (they are only 4" wheels). Safety become an issuewhen running that big of a spacer. Anyway, they trade down for the NA parts so that they can run a 15" setup both front and rear. The combination gives the best mix of safety, traction at low speeds and stability top end.

Anyway it boils down to running slicks almost requires skinnies up front for stability and the safest/most cost effective way to do it would be to run smaller brakes to run the right sized skinnies. So if any of you guys are going to be drag racing, keep your brakes:thumbup:

Rscott told it pretty well....Im running NA brakes all around on my supra for that exact reason...16" bogarts all around with skinnies up front :)
