Question Automatic Thread Updates?

Over the past several years I've had to re-learn a phenomenon every now and then that the forums refresh from time to time, dumping your work.

Often I write posts for CL while multi-tasking on other projects - phone calls, customer jobs, etc. while CL runs in the background. Now and then I return to CL just in time to see it "update", and an article on which I've spent a bit of time on, disappear forever.

OK, that's easily handled by working in Word and cutting and pasting to the thread when it's complete, but often I start a piece of only a couple of paragraphs, only to have it vanish before I can get to the "Submit" button.

Is there some set time or other criterion that triggers these updates? . . . or am I just leaving a window open for too long? Maybe it's my browser (currently IE8), although except for a couple of news sites, CL is the only one that does this.

I do similar draft writeups but have never seen what you describe. Most often I lose it because I accidently close the window.
