eBay auction plugs

2. No auction style posts, no links to items on eBay or Craigslist; sell it here or sell it there, not both. This includes links to auctions and sales of items on other sites too. If someone you are buying from (or responding to a WTB) PM's you with an ebay link to their item, please forward the PM to a moderator.

The rules makes sense - keeps all kinds of vendors from signing up and polluting CL with ebay/Craigslist ads.
We DO have a place to ask questions like these (since this question doesn't have anything to do with a GS....) it's the site suggestions and questions forum and I moved your post there
Again I just wasn't sure if we had somehting like this here on CL.
Would be nice

1) We had an influx of vendors who joined just to publicize their items for sale on ebay and not contribute to the community or support it via advertising. It's often difficult to differentiate between sneaky vendor and new member until they build up post history. And even harder when members with experience become vendors (we have had several of those as well).
2) To preseve the sense of community / eliminate the 'dibs' and other arguments that often inevitably follow auction-style sales we don't allow auctions in our classifieds. Bad blood and ongoing stalking often followed a lost auction and we had several ongoing battles that flowed into the main forums when we allowed this type of sale. eBay and other auction sites fall into that category of enabling auctions.
People are welcome to list both here and on ebay, just don't link to the auction (or provide details to find it). Of course listing sale items here is a free benefit to our members and you have to pay ebay.
3) eBay is making money off directly linked auctions and they aren't contributing anything to the ongoing support of our forum.
There is a little recent twist -- sometimes ebay advertises (via Google context sensitive ads) on a CL banner advertisement. When they do that they DO provide support for the forum but doesn't make them an approved vendor here. The google adsense ads are an entirely different model and doesn't change our approach above.
In short, please don't post ebay links unless you'd like your classified ad closed or deleted
