how come under the advanced search you can type in only 10 characters under user name?? i was trying to find posts by a member whose name was name had more than 10, and when i went to search w/only the 1st 10, it said invalid member. now i know you can "unclick" the exact name option, but it just seems silly that members can have longer names than that allowed in the search

 

I agree with you, but its simply the way vbulletin works and we have no control over it. My guess is that the 'search index' is built on the first ten characters of the name field only, and it would take much longer / be less efficient to search on the others with an unknown field length.

Ten characters IS the max name length for the last couple of versions. Only those folks who may have been on older versions, or have had longer names ' forced in' by administrators are greater than ten. I search probably more than anyone on CL and I very infrequently run into this problem. Fleeting inconvenience at best (for me).

 

Just find ANY post made by that member and click their name, then "find more posts by this user".
