Cool escrow service??...

well, i have had this idea for CL for a while, but never posted it. i didnt do a search to see if its been brought up before, but if ANYONE is as driven by money as i am, then i think someone would have thought of this before... well, i know i LOVE to browse the CL classified forums, and when they added the feedback forum, i thought it was a great idea... the only problem i have had is w/being able to trust people... personnally, i have had NO preoblems w/anyone on this site b/c this is an AWESOME community the "best" option we have to send money to someone is through paypal, but there is a 3% fee and i HATE absorbing that hit if i need to sell something... so my bright idea is this, why doesnt CL start an escrow service so that we can be able to trust members more easily... like upon the delivery of an item, the money is sent to the seller via electronic transfer... and of course CL can charge a percentage for their trouble. personnally, i would MUCH rather CL take a chunk of my change than paypal... so what do you guys think??

That idea requires resources that may or may not be available...

Wouldn't it be mroe prudent to allocate a provider like paypal to link with CL and maybe offer reduced rates to paid CL members? Many members are comfortable with existing service providers and I'm sure that paypal or some others could see the opportunity in this. It may be a way of encouraging paid memberships with direct benefits to those members...
just a a thought....

The only problem is that we would only be able to verify that the goods were recieved. We could not varify the condition nor the quality of the goods, as this would cause a sever overhead and knowledge of many different components. Inorder to do it properly, we would need to know all products, and the terms of the transaction. This is currently not feasable.

If we only insure that products were recieved, we will still run the risk that one party might protest becuase the product was not in the condition ( or some other factor) that was previously stipulated in the agreement.

I can tell you this, we will be working on a member ranking systems. I know there are ways of cheating such systems, but we will still rely our forum moderators to handle cases of abuse.
