This may have been answered a few times before, but I haven't come across any active discussion of it.
How does one become a CL moderator? Criteria and qualifications? Who determines the final decision for each new CL moderator (perhaps DaveGS4)? I've noticed lately that some moderators have come and go for a while in forums like the ES330/300 and Detailing.
Also while we're on the topic of moderators, why is it that there are no moderators listed in the individual regional CL forums (i.e. Pacific, Southwest, Northeast, etc)? I think as far as seeking questions and answers for upcoming events and meets from any person, it would probably be convenient to have a moderator enlisted in his/her representative regional forum as the go-to person.
Incoming moderators are nominated by the administrators (Ethan, LS400 me) and often we ask the moderator team for new moderator suggestions based on their observations. Sometimes moderator nominations come in via request by member indicating interest or nominations by other members (via PM to Ethan or me).
Moderators are typically asked to sign up for a three to six month cycle. Some obviously are around longer than that, others shorter.
The criteria we look for (in general):
- focus on helping and assisting others
- ability to handle conflict well
- ability to communicate
- time spent on CL to be effective (both hours per day on CL and history on the forum)
- track record of participation within forum rules
Super moderators peruse all forums including the regional forums. Those (at least for now) are typically low in posts and don't need much attention. I typically get contacted by folks who want a meet annouced or stickied, so I probably could stick my name out there.
Dave, if I can add. lexusk8, being on the boards a lot helps. And being knowledgeable about at least one specific model Lexus. Finally being a respected member BEFORE being a moderator.
Great info moderators! It's pretty evident that all the current moderators have frequented this Lexus forum for a long time. I know it's been mentioned countless times by others, but this is why I love CL: endless supply of information, and openness to constructive discussion
