2018 ES 350 Premium (Rubber coming off window jamb)
Hello,
i am new to this ES forum. I have been “down the hall” in the GS forum for a while. Anyway, I love the car, it’s amazing. I got it in San Antonio, L-Certified.
I wanted to see, if any of you were having this issue. The rubber in the rear door jamb is coming apart, but the dealer stated that “it’s a defected part on all 18 ES’” and “that’s just how it goes”.
I have added pics, please tell me what you think.
Notice the rubber, all chewed up.
Look at the rubber.

My car is a 2017. 2 years old this month and NO problems with any rubber. And if there was a problem the dealer would be replacing it. And I’d be driving a loaner while they did.
I’d go back and have a chat with the dealer. All the way up to the GM if necessary. I’d be nice, but there would be no doubt they are fixing that. And I’d call Lexus if needed.
The car before my ‘17 was a 2010 ES and the rubber on it was perfect too. Your dealer is blowing you off, IMHO.

If the dealer is saying that the part is defective, that means that they are saying that replacing the rubber should be covered by the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty.
As another point of reference, I had a 2013 ES for 3 1/2 years, and I've had my 2017 ES for 2 1/2 years. Neither car had anything similar to what is on your car.
As said above, you should go up to the management level at the dealership. If the dealer's general manager doesn't agree that the problem needs to be fixed and covered by the warranty, you should try another dealership or contact Lexus corporate.

Yeah, it was BS. I called the manager, and he sent out an assistant to come and get the car from my job in Austin, and take it back to San Antonio to get it fixed.
What had happened, was that the edge of the rubber was tucked in under the lip. Lexus was able to pop it out, which looks better, but still it’s the fact that I know someone or something messed up that rubber. Here are the final pics.
They did replace the center console because it was scuffed in the back seat, they also replaced the protection shield behind the bumper near the wheel well, they took out some light scratches. After I would not let up, and kept *****in they through in some tint for my troubles. Tint does not fix the original issue, but I appreciate Lexus trying to make it right.
See the pics, zoom in to see the rubber. Still a little chewed up. Lexus salesman took the pics.
Overall, I am happier now. It’s an amazing car with a great engine.
