What's up with the new IS350 Rims I put on my SC430?

Default What's up with the new IS350 Rims I put on my SC430?

I bought some rims similar to the ones that BGW bought. They are staggered and have two different wheel sizes.

After re-reading the post, I see they are actually the ones ROHO has. He says they are off a 06 IS350.

Anyways, they went on my car ok, but they don't seem to be seated right. It appears there is a space between the rotor and the rim.
I think it might be the little ring that holds my rotors on.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Does this have something to do with the SC430 being a hub centric car? (whatever that means)

That view makes it appear that your lug bolts are bent or not perpendicular to the hub, as if the holes in the wheel don't match that of the car's bolt pattern by just a little bit. Is that right, or is that just the way the picture makes it look?

I am pretty sure the wheel studs are perpendicular. The lug nuts are self centering and they all went on ok

Here is a picture of the backside of the rim. i got the picture off of ebay, but bought the rims locally from Craigslist

I don't know the specs of your new (used) wheels but do not drive the car like that.
They should mount up flush and solid against that hub.

Agree. The hub diameter may be too large for the center hole in the wheels. The wheels should fit snug over the hub. Do not drive the car like that.

i hope you have this resolved...
if not, take the wheel off and pop out the center cap. Now reinstall the wheel, making sure the hub slides into the wheel.
you may need to remove the plastic ring from the car.
also, I am pretty sure those wheels should have a Toyota stamp on the inside, unless they are aftermarket.

The center bore of the wheel is 60.1mm. The SC430 and IS250/350 are the same.
i don’t think you have a problem other than making sure the wheel is mounted correctly.
sometimes you just need to move the wheel around.

As a data point, I have 2012 IS250 wheels on my '06 SC430 (The previous owner bent a wheel so he bought them at his local Lexus dealer and had them installed there too.)

Was that ring leftover from previous wheels that were on there? Aftermarket wheels often come with a black plastic ring to "size" their wheels to various vehicles. Those rings snap in the center bore of the wheels. Sometimes they stay on the hub when the wheels are removed. That would explain the gap.

I haven't driven the car yet; Like all of you, I didn't think it would be safe.

I put the rims on Friday night, just as it was getting dark. When they didn't seat correctly I just left the car and decided to look into it when there was more light. Unfortunately I haven't had the time, due to work.

My sense is there is an inner ring in the hub like BGW & Oldsig mentioned. I hope to have time today to take off the rims and check.

It has to be a spacer for that to be away from the hub. But looking at the picture, there is no spacer.

So it turns out it was the rotor retaining ring.


Once removed it resolved the issue/gap

After/Before pictures



I assume the ring is not needed, since both the caliper and the direct "rim to rotor" contact will hold it in place. Do you guys agree?

So I looked and there is no Toyota Stamp like we expected. It does have a "J DOT" stamp, which I assume is the Japanese Dot of Transportation. I am not sure if they are after market rims, since they look so much like the OEM ones. Also the back of my rims look identical to the ones on ebay that say OEM RIMS. Of course not all ebay people are honest, so I will take that info with a grain of salt.

p.s. If you are wondering about the metal shavings, I had to drill out the threads of one of my lugnuts and replace the wheel stud. The thread on the wheel stud was damaged and the nut would just spin around in a circle.
