Really good review of Michelin Defender LTX M/S

These tires really are amazing. I have had these on a GX460, GX470 and Toyota 4-Runner and was always impressed with the performance under all conditions ... and they easily last 60,000 miles. The only downside is that they don’t have a knarly look ... the reason I run Nitto Trail Grapplers on my FJ Cruiser.

Probably the best highway biased, with light off roading, tire on the market. It's a shame they don't look the part a little better. I ran them on a previous F150, and nearly put them on the GX, but the KO2 does look better and perform about the same. Heavier though.

I was a BFG All Terrain man for years ... probably ran six sets over the years ... totally sold on these tires, but got tired of them going out-of-round after 60% tire wear, even with every 5-6,000 mile balancing. Michelin acquired BFG in 1990 ... so don't know if the "Michelin Magic" has addressed this problem.

I got stuck yesterday Wasn't because of the tires, but because I bottomed out in the front. These tires surprised me how well it handles in the snow, just as good as General Altimax Artics but not Nokian level.

I liked these tires but felt like they weren't good in the snow. Maybe I've spoiled myself over the years because I almost always have a second set of winter tires for my vehicles. I switched to the Wildpeak AT3W because they are better in the snow with the snowflake rating and more capable off road. For highway driving in dry and rainy conditions the Defenders did very well.

Yes ... the Michelin LTX M/S tires are a "hat trick" ... look like "Soccer Mom" tires, but have incredibly good performance in all conditions. My only issue in the past has been cracking ... where Discount Tire actually replaced a complete set @ 2-years @ no cost given the cracks were so bad. I also had another set that looked like they were moving in the same direction, but crossed the 60,000 mile mark and were replaced.
I assume the cracking issue has been addressed with the release of the successor ... Defender LTX M/S2
