Default Topping off coolant with old red coolant

Hi guys, after adding MMO to oil and driving it hard, the low idle misfire has reduced, now I checked my coolant level and it is at the low mark in the reservoir, I am heading to Wal-mart later today to here are the three options to top it off in my head, you guys help me choose the best one. Right now I have the red coolant in my tank

1) Buy 1 gal Distilled water and top it off to the full mark.(>$1)

2) Buy 1 gal Prestone extended life antifreeze 50/50 that is claimed to be universal and can be mixed will all types of antifreeze.($8.88)

3) Buy 0.5 gallon Special Prestone in red that has Toyota label on it.($6.97)

None of those choices get something like Xerex Asian Formula, Pentofrost A1 or Toyota Long Life Red. You need a HOAT coolant (google that) I don't think Prestone makes such a thing unless they've recently started. If you are trying to save $10 well that will end up costing you much more in the future.

The Prestone Extended life coolant is very recent and it lists that they work with ALL Makes/ALL color coolants. Why use Zerex if there is something cheaper in the market that claims to do the job just fine?

Here is the link, look at the description: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prestone-...2c&athena=true

If you don't use a HOAT coolant you will have issues I've seen this happen over and over again. But sounds like you've made up your mind.

Do not use all makes/all models. To be frank, it’s just a lie. It will for sure work for the short term, but not the long term. Up to you.

If you are only topping up the reservoir, some dH20 is fine. If at Walmart, get some of their Zerex asian if you need more than a 1/2 pint, or for your next radiator drain/fill.

If the MMO made some diff. to your ignition problem, then at WM get three bottles of the Regane HM (~$5/each). Run two back to back in sequential tanks of gas, then have another for a few thousand later or the next oil change.

Well I don't want to damage my car, so I will go with you and buy a Zerex. But I am waiting for someone to try Prestone and mix with red and give their opinion on Lexus/Toyota forum.

If you are talking about this Prestone:

https://prestone.com/products?detail=AF6200

You could use it. Don’t use the AMAM.

I do not top off my reservoir unless it is LESS than low (which has never happened). My experience is that the expansion tank isn’t quite large enough, and it blows out in normal use. If I keep filling it up to “Max,” It will be down to low before long. If it leave it at Low, I never need to top off (this is on our ‘02 model). If you keep topping up, you are basically just diluting your coolant over time. If it is at Low, I would just monitor it and see if it actually drops from there.

I went and bought Valvoline Zerex formula Asian coolant for $12.97 a gallon and filled it to full. It was always in the middle of low and high, but recently I have been using heater/defrost so it got lower, it was still a tad above "low" mark, but now that you said to not keep it at high, should I drain some out and leave it in the middle?

With the engine stone cold the coolant will be at the low mark no amount of adding coolant will change this the level will eventually settle back to low mark. This assumes you don't have any leaks and the coolant cap is OEM and working properly.

I get you, the level was a little above low when the car was sitting for a couple days, yes my cap is OEM and there are no leaks in the system. I still filled the reservoir up to about 60%. in the 9 months of me driving it, the level stays the same, only recently after using heater, it went down only a TAD bit, After a bit of driving the level is at almost full.
