Jacking from front cross member ok?
I'm wondering if it's OK to jack from the front cross member beam on these cars? This is the beam that runs across the car directly behind the oil pan. I realize the manual mentions a jacking pad in front of the oil pan, but my jack is too tall to reach it and I don't have ramps. I've tried jacking from the points under the side skirts, but that just bends them all to hell with a floor jack.

I believe if you look at the manual, it will describe the recommended position for the jack. It is in the crossbeam. In fact that's what I use.

Just be wise about it. It is cast aluminum and needs the weight distribution spread across it. As in, throw a 2"x4" between your jack and x-member.
For oil changes I have some 2"x6" stacked in succession and just drive up on them if nothing else needs done.
^^ Makes it easier to jack too as it gives a lot more room.

Do you have any pieces of wood you can put under your front tires to drive up on that will provide enough clearance for your jack? You can also lift one side of the car at the jack stand point, put something under that tire, lower the car on it and then you should have enough clearance to lift the car from the correct lifting point. I would only use the recommended lifting point.
