Default ES350 Struts

I just bought a 2008 Lexus ES350 with only 88k miles on it. I took it to get a wheel alignment and they showed me my right rear strut is seeping a little oil, as is my steering rack. All new struts and rack were estimated at $5,000 to repair/replace. OW! I don't think I need to have these repairs done yet. The car runs smooth and fine. Do you think it's okay for me to postpone these repairs until they start to show symptoms? Thanks.

Was that quote from the Lexus dealer? That repair quote is really high.
Did they say all struts are bad or did they discuss only replacing the rears?
Are you in Colorado? If near Denver, there are lots of great independents to choose from.

The quote was from a trusted repair shop. Only the one strut is seeping a little oil. The other 3 are fine.
They only discussed replacing all 4 at the same time (their recommendation). I'm in Denver and plan
to fine a new "trusted" repair shop.

Talk to the lexus dealer about the power steering rack. There is a 10 year extended warranty on it, based on when the car was first put into use. It might still be covered.

Usually they prefer to replace in pairs, which is why I asked about the rears.

If you are near the west side, Toy-Automotive in Littleton is outstanding. If you are on the SE side, ToyCarCare in Centennial is very good.

That extended repair warranty just expired. I missed it by a few months it seems. The car is a 2008 model. Thanks.

I used to use Toy Car Care in Centennial some years ago, but had a couple of bad experiences there and went to Pride Auto Care in Parker ever since.
Thanks for the reminder though. I may give them another try.
