Default 2001 GS 430 Ballast options

Just bought a 2001 Gs 430 With 122k on the clock. Millennium Silver with Gray interior. I have a long list of needs but 1st is the headlights. I swapped bulbs and the passenger front side is out. From what I Have read on the forum it is the ballast. I think it is wise to replace both ballasts at the same time. I have factory HID. Is there an aftermarket option that will plug into the existing harnesses or is there a good option to splice in? Lastly I could go stock but am hesitant to put in a used ballast that may fail shortly and I am certainly not going to pay the dealer for a new one. I am sure no one loves pulling the bumper more than they have to.
Thanks all.

I just bought a pair of cheap ebay ballasts, cut the harness off the factory ballast and spliced the wires from the new ones to the old, sealed with heat shrink and voila, problem solved. Been running them for like 8 years with no problem. Just 2 wires.

you can mount them wherever you want. I think the newer ballasts are tiny now, so yea, you can put it where the old one was. The holes will not match up, just a matter of using some 2-sided tape or silicone or whatever adhering element you like. Also, you're gonna have to buy a set of d2r adapters, like these:

Might just be cheaper to buy a d2s kit with bulbs and all. In any event, you need 2 ballasts and a set of the above.

OEM ballasts are 35watt, right?

You did not happen to take pics, did you? I know this is not complicated, but, I like knowing as much as possible before a (potential) fix, especially when I have to take the bumper cover off.

Anyone run 55watt ballasts in stock housing? I already have 55watt ones around.

Yes all OEM Toyota ballasts are 35W. From what I have read about that the 55W ballasts are not worth it since they overdrive the bulb and the bulbs dim much faster than with the 35W. This means you end up with less output than the 35W in a very short period of time and you have to replace the bulbs about twice as fast
