I was gloating about how awesome the weather is in Sunny Phoenix Arizona. It was 78 degrees yesterday; perfect top down weather.



Then my top refused to go up. It gave me a code saying the left motor was not pulsing right.

The weather forecast says it is going to get down to the low 60's this week, so I want to put up my top.

Anyone ever put their top up manually? Is it best to follow the instructions in the owner's manual, or is there an easier way to do it?



P.S. This is a REAL question, even though it looks like "Fake News" from the Arizona Tourism Board

I believe that JohnnyCake has and he followed the manual. He keeps a copy of the procedure in his car, IIRC.

Thanks guys. I was looking through the manual and it tells me to disconnect a couple of cables under the package tray. As much as I look, I can't find which cable they are talking about.

I also saw the Service Bulletin about applying a gentle force to raise or lower the trunk lid/package tray. Does anyone know if I can just do that if I make sure the package tray is not latched?

The manual also says I need to unscrew a couple of latches. I assume that I have to put those back if I ever hope to get my top working again?

Any chance you are reading this JONNYCAKES and can chime in?

So I was preparing to put up the top manually. I bought some extra long metric hex wrenches to closer match the ones that were suppose to come with my car. I figured out which co-worker I was going to ask to help me do it during lunch.

I got in my car this morning, said a quick prayer and then pushed the CLOSE button. IT WORKED! The top went through it's normal closing cycle and I was back in my metallic cocoon Warm & Dry. I am VERY happy. Now I can replace the bad motor without having to man handle the top back into place.

Case closed! Thanks to everyone who offered help and suggestions.

Not exactly. The owner's manual instructions (requiring two people) are probably OK, but Lexus issued a service bulletin regarding how to close manually with one person. Much more streamlined. I'll try to find it and post.

Thanks man, I was able to dig that one up and read it on my phone when I needed it most, so I am good for now.

Glad that it worked for you in the nick of time. Good luck with the repair. If you can, take some pictures of the repair process.
