isnt there two pieces to this? as in front piece pictured and 1 in the back

The pic is of the trim that goes on the back of the steering wheel, behind the airbag. Only 1 piece (has the cruise lever on the right and if equipped, phone controls on the left, if not, a cover plate)

Yeah, what he said. On the rear of the steering wheel. The little covers for the access on the left and right sides are included.
