Oh it's a forgone conclusion that owners are SOL and independent shops as well. New generation cars are locked down now to the point I have to run a real time internet connection back to the brand HQ just to scan them lol!
It concerns me greatly ! I may not work on my own cars but I do enjoy taking my car to an independent mechanic because it’s less headache to to go them then get oversold at a dealership. And I’m definitely not on board with even more nannying equipment. Specifically speaking about the impairment tech as well as the speed limiting tech. The amount of control people want to have doesn’t bode well for us…
Much like houses …. We eventually won’t out right own our cars either. Why of I paid for this car do o need to then turn around and pay subscriptions for half of the bells and whistles? And now you’re gonna tell me that I can’t do what I want or take my car where I want it? Ridiculous.
My guess is that they want or expect everyone to move to the lease aka subscription model of car ownership as its likely an MBA somewhere did a study that that business model maximizes profits.
Oh it does. Most people will never fully utilize or get to break even on their subscriptions, so many things in life people end up buying more of them they actually need or use.
this is just the way of the world at this point and it sucks... even once simple joys in life like playing a single player video game can't be done without having an active internet connection and the console logging in first
