Can anyone tell me about changing the steering rack?
I took my car in for an alignment and the shop said my steering rack is cracked. This does not surprise me.
I have some questions that would love for anyone to answer:
Has anyone changed their steering rack? How did it go?
Did you do it yourself or have a shop do it?
Did you go with a new rack, a rebuilt rack, a used rack? Where did you get it from?
How many hours did it take to replace it?
Do you have to do anything weird like drop the sub-frame?
Does anyone have the steps from the manual?
After it is done does it have to be paired with the ECU or is it just a Steering Angle Calibration?

I replaced the rack in my car with a 2020+ RC F rack to get the stiffer OE bushings. I replaced it myself. It's relatively straightforward, I was doing a bunch of stuff at the same time, so I'd guess around 1-2 hours depending on your skill level, tools on hand, and doing it on jack stands. You do not need to drop the subframe. Afterwards it's probably best to perform a steering calibration.
(NOTE: The RC F rack is not plug 'n play, in case anyone has that thought. It requires changing the connector and the tie rods are not directly compatible with the 2IS knuckles or outer tie rods.)
Looking through the 8 page removal procedure I was a little overwhelmed. It is nice to hear that once you get your hands on things, it is intuitive enough that you can remove it in a couple of hours.
