So I was reconnecting my battery after installing a new alternator and accidently created a short across the terminals (big spark!). Now the car is in limp mode and showing error codes P1125 Throttle control motor circuit, P1349 VVT System malfunction (bank 1), P1656 OCV circuit (bank 1).
I checked all the fuses and relays in the engine bay and kick panel, everything appears to be ok.
I "think" I need to replace the ECU but wanted to check with the smart people here first incase there were other ideas on what to check.
If I do change the ecu with another of the same part number, will I need to go to Lexus to have it or the key coded?
Exactly how was it grounded? Usually grounding the alternator line will cause the main fuse to blow, unluess it was grounded in an unusually way, which would likely just damage whatever the power went thru while traveling back to the battery. I would also check all the fuses in all 3 fuse boxes just to make sure nothing blew.
Try getting the ecu reprogrammed before replaced, if the car was driving normally before with no codes it very likely could be the ecu, I had used my girlfriends 99 gs300 to try to jump a ls430 that had a very dead battery and it shorted her ecu without blowing any fuses cause of the ls430 being higher cranking amp, her transmission went into limp mode and wouldnt go past 20-40mph and it threw like 3 codes aswell i forgot which codes though but it was cause of the ecu after i got it reprogrammed all was good
