Default Number of turn signal flashes

I keep forgetting to ask the dealer to do this and since I don't plan to be back there anytime soon, I did a search. Nothing on the IS500 forum, but I found this on the broader IS forum: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...s-to-more.html

It works just fine and is also reported on Reddit and the other Lexus forum. Convoluted and makes you wonder why, with all of the Settings available for the owner, this is not a normal owner setting. My Carista wouldn't do it either. In any event, I now have 5 flashes when I change lanes.

Based on my review of this club, the other Lexus forum, and Reddit, there are a lot of opportunities to make a mistake in following the instructions. But most people report success, eventually. I screwed it up once but then got it right and now have 5 flashes. My mistake was the final step; I pushed the turn signal all the way down instead of just to the flash. Had to start all over.

OK, hold on….it only blinks three times? So if I leave it on like the dork I am, it really only flashed three times?

If so, whew!

Yep, the default is 3 flashes! If you just flick the stalk to the "lane change" position, it will flash 3 times. The book and the hack say the capability is there for 3, 5 or 7 flashes but the book tells you the dealer has to do his voodoo to make the change. Clearly, not so.

I know it a convoluted process but I'd rather it be convoluted than require an obd2 programmer/techstream.

Too many options require techstream. I want to change the volume of the blinker clicks but I just refuse to pay the carista sub

No, it's the lane change feature where you just push it down halfway, not all the way and let it go, it'll just flash three times by default. If you push it down all the way, it'll keep blinking till someone honks or throws you the middle finger. LOL

If you push the stalk all the way up or down it goes into a detent until you make a turn then it goes off. However, if you push it up or down a bit from horizontal and release it then it returns to horizontal and flashes 3 times by default. But, there is a hidden capability to flash 5 or 7 times instead. All of my vehicles have had this for a long, long time.

I did the 5-flash setting myself in the garage. I followed the instructions here - https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post8496856

I edited part of it to be clearer about the part that tripped up others and me.

I flash people seven times when I use my turn signal! That is with no trenchcoat required.
