Default Dash-Cams can come in handy.

While it doesn't exactly fit my driving style, dash-cams can really come in handy. The last couple of days, there was a very large tornado outbreak from Texas north to Wisconsin, and this driver ended up in the outer circulation of one of those twisters, toppling a big semi-truck right in front of him. After the tornado passes, you can then see it in the distance, moving away

that's not a dash cam. that's a driver holding his phone up; you can tell by the shot rotating and zooming in.

True...but more or less the same function, except for zooming.

We are fairly lucky here on the East Coast.....major tornado outbreaks are quite rare.

I have run a dashcam since 2018, very useful to protect you from liability

Out on the Plains this time of year, you never know when you can run into a nearby tornado. That's also the case in the South, but tornadoes are generally harder to see there for a number of reasons.....population density, more buildings, more trees blocking vision, and more humid environment and heavier rain obscuring the tornado. As tex2670 pointed out a few posts ago, it can also be done sometimes with a hand-held camera-phone, but a dash cam is a much stable platform.

How is this a response to my comment you replied to? Dash cams are to protect you from liability, not to catch tornadoes lol. Holding a cell phone doesn't protect you at all unless you hold it all the time.

They can be used for a number of different functions...yes, liabilty-protection is one of them. Also, for liabilty and prosecution itself......remember the noted "Bait-Car" anti-theft TV series?

In watching many of the recent outbreak videos, I was amazed how many people drove right into the active tornadoes.

Absolutely - i installed them in our cars in 2019 and they have been in every car we have owned since then. Well worth the $100-200.

Well, since you all recommend them I might go ahead and pick one up.
