Default Leak

I was chaning my oil an noticed the pink dried coolent. Water pump? It is a 2018 with 43K miles. Seems little ealry for waterpump to fail, but things happen. This should not be the valley peak issue this engine is known for, correct? I called my mechanic and he said if it is the waterpump it would 700 with OEM parts.

On every single internet forum the success of a thread depends heavily on a descriptive/accurate title, and good pictures go a long way. Only having dark pics from the bottom side of the engine isn't going to provide enough info for anyone to really accurately help you with an answer.

Water pump?
Yes, sure looks like it.

Correct. The valley leak will show stains at the back of the engine, near the transmission.

That does look like water pump. Mine started leaking on my ‘12 @ 38k miles with similar area of pink residue assuming you don’t have a coolant leak from the hose attached to thermostat.

What is your in-service date for your ‘18?

It might still be on the tail end of your 6/70 powertrain warranty

Thank you. I thought it was a 5 year/60K. I bought it Dec of 2018. I made an appointment with Nalley to take a look at the leak.

have that as well. checked and added to reservoir. check every oil change. havent had to add in a couple of years. didnt bother to fix.
check your level and rate of change. then you know if you benefit from addressing or not. of course after you ID the source as it could be a sign of a big 'about to happen' issue

Lexus dealer confirmed it is a water pump leak. The most shocking addtional service was the in cabin air filter for 130 bucks. I was about to replace it since pollen season is wrapping up, but that is just shocking

That price is crazy, just open the access door at the back of your glove box, pull out the old filter and slide in the new one.. MSRP from Lexus for the filter is $41.99 and they can be found cheaper https://parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus__GX-...713950100.html

I already ordered Denso filters from RA for 9 bucks. I declined all of the addtional services.

The cabin filter costs $15.00-odd and takes less than 5-minutes to change ... $130.00 is absolutely criminal ... a great example to always ask for a "Parts + Labor" quote to sanity check the labor side.

I replaced the Cabin Filter with a K&N that can be cleaned ... plus it has the K&N wire mesh on both sides of the filter element ... that prevents rodents from using the cabin filter as easy chew-thru passage into the heater box.

Hello all,I just purchased a 2017 RX 350,34k,Carfax was great 1 owner changed oil every 5k,and just did 30k service.it is emaculate,no rust underneath, as I live in ct.however I wanted to look up HISTORY, from lexus,I was already set up,as I had a 2004 gx470,that I gave my son.as I was scrolling thru,to see if diiff, tranny was drained & refilled,I came upon a note, from service Dept.it stated:found water pump leak & rear shock leak, sales denied repair, was told to wash it down, and that's it.so I put vehicle on ramps, got a flashlight and there was drid up coolant around water pump pulley.area.akso rear shock was leaking, took pics, called dealer, emailed pics, and note from service dept.i am waiting for loner, they are fixing it. Both.my problem is why after 34k,7 years, that this happens, toyota has been known for water pump leaks on 3.5 for years, they still can't seem to get it corrected.
and to add ,this dealership gives 6 month,or 6k warranty on engine only,if I hadn't stumbled across this note,I would have been stuck to pay for waterpump &rear shock.also I didn't know about the 3g 2022 cancelation of the Lexus Enform App.wow!

The OEM GX460 cabin filer costs around $45 at parts desk at dealership - at least it does at one of the dealerships in my town. Maybe hourly rate is $160 and they are charging 30 min to relace air filter? Its that $80 for service that is shocking but maybe Lexus service is in 30 min increments?
