Do you think Ill have any rub/fender issues by going to a slightly wider tire on the stock 18s on a 2006 Ultra Lux?
I'm looking to go just a bit fatter, but when I try to guesstimate fitment its hard to tell whether the tire might hit the inner edge of the rear fender with full suspension travel.
I just changed out my 17" stock wheels to 2006-08 IS350 18" wheels and used 225/40 tires on my 2004 ML. These rims are 8" wide - and no problems whatsoever.
Hard to say...are you looking for the 10mm of width? If you look at the factory sizes, 225/55-17 and 245/45-18, they are roughly the same diameter, 26.7". If you simply increase the width but keep the same profile, like you're doing in the 255/45-18, your tire will be about .3 to .4" taller. I would prefer to keep the proper sizes myself. What that add'l height will do besides introduce error to the speedo would be a good question for someone who has tried that. Why not try some optional recommended fitments instead? One is a 245/45-18 front, 265/40-18 rear. This would introduce understeer, but looks good....even 245/40-19 and 275/35-19 are optional/recommended. Usually you want to keep your diameter the same or close...note how the optional sizes do not increase the fronts beyond 245...
edit ps in both the optional recommended fitments, even though the rears are wider, they are slightly less in diameter than stock. The 19's are almost identical.
