....mine are also, but don't look quite as bad as those in the pic. I think one of the reasons it might be this way, is because the brackets & the exhaust are made of different materials
Has anyone try use vinger and a wire brush to clean all that rustoff the exgaust bracket ?
I wondered if the rust will eventually eat through the brackets,?
rust on the brackets cannot be good for the brackets that hold the exhaust muffler together
Yeah I have the same issue and pretty close to the pics posted here so I will not post a pic. At some point I guess this can deteriorate to where you need to replace but I guess then I will get an after market exhaust system replacement. I expect I will be alright in the short term though.
I've noticed the discoloration for several years on my GS, but I don't think it's anything to worry about. I haven't had any problems out of the exhaust at all. I just think the discoloration happens over time. Then again, if after 17 years something happens I will just replace the exhaust! lol. But so far so good.
If you look at BGW70 new muffler setup it looks like
he did change everything out with his muffler system but
the muffler where the brackets are rusted
i as sure his muffler shop saw the rust but I wondered
why he didn't get them to clean or repair the brackets ?
Pretty typical for exhausts to rust around the Flanges (not brackets) especially if you live somewhere with icy roads that get salted. It's not really something to worry about unless it is particularly bad, hit them with a wire brush to clean them up a bit. Flanges are normally very thick and hold up to the rust okay. The only real drama is removing bolts from them. Clean the rust off with a brush and inspect the welds, id the rust isn't eating into them, or eating into the pipes close to the flange, don't stress, just keep an eye on it every once in a while.
If you're talking about the flanges from the mid pipes to the muffler. Those flanges are thick . It would take a whole lot more years to rust through them. 03 here and they aren't that bad.
