went to get my recalls done, was told that the waterpump needed to be replaced as well, and im now trying to get them to cover the cost for the harness they broke and taped off (northwest lexus in Ontario) - master tech was asked to perform ALL the work
Took my car back to Lexus of New Orleans yesterday. They replaced the plastic protector that I had nothing pretty much left of.
The adviser made the comment if we would've known from the get go that the technician broke it we would've just asked you to cover the cost of the part that day and we would've installed it for free. I thought that was a little silly.
Well considering it cost me a tank of gas and miles I didn't want to put on the car the drive back was pleasant.
Was hoping they would fill me up but oh well. 1 1/2 dr drive 1 way.
I felt that it had been quite well enough that Lexus would be well aware of the Broken Wire Harness issue w/ the ELF, so I scheduled this mid-July at Southpoint Lexus. I made sure to speak w/ the Service Manager who handled my Fan Recall last year and talked with him about the issues I've seen on the forums with the broken and taped up Wiring Harnesses and he assured me multiple times that they've done these ELF's on many recent IS-F's. I felt comforted by his assurances so I scheduled the appointment to drop my car off on a Friday.
I also discussed the issue of the Transmission Fluid in this sealed unit and questioned the costs on having the flush done. The advisor mentioned that this is a sealed-unit and that he maybe can only recall only 1 time seeing this having to be done on the ISF, but I reminded him that my car had 121k at this point and I just needed a guestimate on the pricing to have this done, and at least asked that they check the fluid levels.
The advisor called me early on Saturday morning to report that their tech had checked the levels, and reported it was low and that the fluid looked really dark. The same was also said of the Differential fluid as well. He quoted me an incredible price for the Tranny Flush and Diff Fluid change so I happily agreed.
My car was ready to be picked up later that Saturday and I was able to meet w/ the Service Advisor I was working with and asked him if he could wait a sec as I check real quick- so I popped the hood and lifted the engine cover and sure enough there was that dreaded duct-tape holding the plastic protector together
I stayed firm and asked that they rectify this. He agreed and ordered the new harness protector and had the tech install it!
I'm relieved that this was handled correctly in the end.
Total for the tranny and differential fluid change was only $271! (Really relieved about getting the tranny fluid changed as I was dreading having to do this particular job myself based on Lexus's Recommended technical manual instructions as seen on those Tranny Fluid posts)
Oh and my loaner for the week was a 2016 IS200t....which made me appreciate older cars like our F's much much more!
Got mine back from a bunch of services including the ELF, found a broken harness. Haven't heard back from my SA on whether they have this part in stock or not but I absolutely need my car for the next week and ~500 miles before it can come back to Lexus, is it ok to drive with a taped up harness or will the heat cause damage over that many miles? Im still about a month away from being old enough to get a Lexus loaner (bs policy). Any help would be appreciated on this.
This is why this forum is great. Just got my F back for recalls on the airbag, cooling fan assembly (which melted!) and ELF. I drove the car across the street, pulled the engine cover and saw the crap tape job and broken tabs, etc. Immediately drove it back and had them order replacement parts to fix the harness cover and other wire clips. It irks me to think that they take advantage of owners knowing their shoddy work is hidden by the engine cover that most people don't ever remove.
Good news is that I watched an hour of dash cam footage and it was relatively uneventful - one tech revved it a couple times but that's it. This is why I stay away from the dealer.
In case anyone was worried that Lexus techs weren't breaking the wiring harness protector anymore, rest assured, they still are. Had this recall along with the fan bolt and airbag done at Lexus of Oakville, got the car back today. Luckily, everything else seems good...so far (I was worried about rattles, squeaks or ill-fitting interior pieces as a result of the airbag recall). I checked this before I even left the dealership, showed it to the service manager and asked "if I showed this to any customers coming to look at purchasing a Lexus, what do you think they would say?" His response was "Honestly, most people never even look under the cover". Great excuse genius who's name I will not mention but starts with "D" and rhymes with "ennis". I logged a complaint, but for the $70.00 for a new harness cover, I'll probably just buy a new one myself, my time is worth more than that. I hope they send me one of those "we'd like to hear your feedback on our service" surveys. Just more affirmation of why I never let dealerships touch my vehicles.
Literally every ELF I've ever done on an ISF the harness protector has broken. After the second one I did I had parts stock them. Believe me, they would rather eat the cost of the part than to get a bad survey which screws the dealership and service advisor is particular tremendously.

That does not reflect my experience with Hennessey Lexus of Gwinnett. Chris Agri, my SA, promised it wouldn't happen in the first place, then when I took delivery of the car and saw the butchery, I took it straight to them and said it was unacceptable. Chris said we will order the part and call you when it comes in. That was 18 months ago. Nothing but crickets from Lexus of Gwinnett, but I guarantee you he will call me about the airbag when business is slow. I've since replaced the loom cover myself.
This after they also did an "alignment" but failed to calibrate their machine before putting it on the rack, so caster came out to 7.5 degrees when it measured 9.25 at NTB shortly after I took delivery. The level of incompetence is staggering.
Add to this the very first service for the wife's GS F and they overfilled the oil by almost 3 quarts, and this is at Nalley Lexus in Roswell, not Hennessey Lexus of Gwinnett.
I have ZERO faith in dealership mechanics to do anything right. I am way ahead to spend my $1k annually for TIS with Techstream and do everything myself.
It has a lot to do with why my Supra is 25 years old and runs perfectly.

Yep, 100% correct and 100% accurate on both counts also in my cases. Woodfield Lexus assured me beforehand on the ELF and failed. All three dealerships I've had do an oil change have overfilled the car. I only use the dealership for these for the service history. Unless Lexus lets me use their lifts so I can drain their incompetence before I start the car, I'm going to continue doing the oil changes myself. Staggering indeed.

The techs at the dealers that do that kind of work should be fired ! It just plain laziness on the tech's part or they are hacks ! Who is doing the QC on these guy's work? I had mine done at Magnussen's Lexus in Fremont CA and they did a beautiful job on mine - it looked totally like it did when I took it in (I checked before I left) ! The reason these harnesses get broken is instead of disconnecting all the wiring harnesses like they should, they remove the intake and flop it over so they don't have to disconnect everything! If the harness does get broken during service or repairs (especially a recall), they should replace it - not hide this crappy tape job under the engine cover ! You spend the kind of money on these cars that we do and this is the BS kind of work done at the dealer? If this happened to my car I would send picture to Lexus corporate to let them know the poor quality of work being at that dealership !
