That glass though...

 

Actually, I like the cut glass trim. It is a unique touch that may be copied by other car makers. The glass is designed and tested for use in car interiors, so I am sure safety concerns have been investigated carefully. While the shape of the door glass and leather trim is supposed to evoke an unfurled Japanese fan, I am not sold on their odd juxtaposition on an interior with smoother flowing lines and surfaces. I am a bit surprised by the pleated fabric door trim. It looks really cool, but would be a dust magnet, and it is definitely not leather. I believe the pleated fabric and cut glass trim are only available in the LS500h, but it would be nice to have similar options in the regular LS. Overall though, Lexus has definitely raised on the bar on interior design. With the guitar string dash trim (another dust nightmare), the ambient light "screen" opposite the front passenger, and the door trim elements, Lexus has produced a really beautiful interior.

 

Not a fan of the glass, personally. I liked the video, it made me feel like I was watching a long trailer for a Batman movie. Very theatrical and dramatic with the music and showing craftsmanship to design and create the interior.

The exterior styling of the car is starting to grow on me and feeling less "radical" of a design shift from the 2013-2017 body style. i still don't like the view from an angle where you can see where the rear passenger windows start going towards the trunk. I think the trunk looks too high or something is off with the proportions there.

 

If anybody gets the Beyond Lexus owners magazine there were some nice pictures and an article in there.

I don't care for the glass either but that's why they have options. I like the concept of trying new things vs the same old stuff everybody does.

This looks far better than the glass and bordello curtain inspired door inserts. If they would have carried this theme across the dash and replaced the pod drivers cluster with a large 2 screen setup like the S550, the interior would look fantastic.

 

If the car was dismantled and you saw the dash apart from the doors, you would have no idea they even came from the same car.

 

Also, it seems like the picture might have been doctored to minimize the seam between the door and the dash. If you blow it up with editing software, you can barely see it, but in the pic below, it is much more prominent.

 

This is why there are options. I've never understood people having disdain so strongly for a look at they can option out of...or that is an option itself.

Beautiful car. Though it seems that a lot of car makers are moving towards compact transmission shifting levers. Gives more space for other components, but I'll miss the older style levers/mechanism

 

Is there any info yet (or are there any comments/impressions) on the drivers seat legroom or footwell room vs the previous generation LS (2013-17)? Thanks in advance.
