The 5 is not ugly by any means. Its actually handsome. But the rear looks too much like the 3 series. I wonder how much lighter this 5 will be, seeing as how the carbon core in the 7 reduced weight by only 70 pounds or so. It would be funny if this has more weight saving without the carbon.

No foglights? Instead they have those stupid LEDs? I hate them on Hyundai, now I will hate them on the 5 series.

Some more pics - Definitely evolutionary design but still looks way better than all the other cars in the segment.
Interior is a step above current 5 and now probably the best in the segment.
I loved my F10 535i and happy to see BMW not mess up the new one.

New Engine Specs are CRAZY! Knowing BMW these figures are underrated. M550i and M5 coming later....
  • 540i: 3.0L i6-cyl turbo. 335HP and 332lb-ft. 0-60: 4.9s (4.7s with xDrive)
  • 530i: 2.0L i4-cyl turbo. 248HP and 258lb-ft. 0-60: 6s (5.8s with xDrive)

I see absolutely nothing that suggests that. On par, sure, but the competition has some great interiors. In any event I'll get to check this bad boy out in person while I'm in Germany next month. Can't wait.

PLUSES: it has fold down rear seats. LEXUS, ARE YOU LISTENING????? FOLD DOWN REAR SEATS
They got rid of the hood gap line above the grille.

Minuses: I think the F10 looks better and cleaner than this. This new one has chunky looking headlights. The horizontalness of the top edge of the headlights gives it that chunky look.
Too many messy creases in the sheet metal, particularly the top crease that diverges from the front wheel and wraps around the windows.

I like the E class design the best in this class. It's clean, and it will outsell everybody in this class.

IMO l think the A6/S6 look waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better......

Well I'm not saying the A6 is an ugly car, it certainly looks handsome but iMO is way too understated. Your pictured a high-spec trim with flashy blue paint, whereas your average A6 looks like this:

BMWs have a lot going on styling-wise that does not come out in pictures. They generally catch the eye in real life. Like all 5-series' not named E60, this new G30 is handsome, sleek, and understated. The E39 was a testament to this and is always acknowledged as the best 5er of all time. IMO the G30 sportiest looking car in its class with a dynamic interior design to match. The F10 was already a nice design, and this is just a sleeker and more modern version. Home run in my book.

At least they are there. Can't say the same about my F-Sport GS.

To add to what I'm saying regarding complex styling elements that don't come out in pictures but pop in real life, look at this photo:

Look at how the character line going through the door handles curves as it reaches the front door, and integrates beautifully into a second character line that wraps around the Hofmeister kink. Very unique, beautiful, and nicely done. Aside from the i3, 3/5 GT, E60, and pre-LCI E65, BMW has been very solid in design throughout its history. When you see a BMW you know it's a BMW, no matter how old it is. This timeless design is one element that keeps me addicted to the brand. People think my 2009 E90 is a new car.

good point brownpride. especially in that gray color, the sculpting definitely makes it look rich and luxurious.

I am really enjoying the current interior design theme that BMW has adopted across its models. In the past, their interiors have had the tendency of looking very nondescript (albeit solid), without a lot of character or style. This, along with ergonomics were things that really took a backseat to tech and driving dynamics.

BMW has definitely addressed this in recent vehicles and have put a lot more thought into integrating its unique design language into their cabins. For example, the recurring "Air Breather" design element (infamously known as the hockey-stick, best seen on the side of a new 7 series) is all over this 5 series' interior, including the overhead map lights which is definitely unique and eye catching. I feel that competitors, Lexus chief among them, have done a great job of pushing BMW and MB to step up their cabin interior game.

I am looking forward to checking it out in person.

I think it looks pretty good, not too wild about the new E-Class, this looks better.

New A6 is due out soon, so not really fair to be showing the old A6.

Looking at the interior pics, they butchered the tachometer. Now when driving at normal highway speeds, it's going to look like one is stuck in a low gear and the engine is over-revving. I hate it when manufacturers mess with these needles. Give them both the same 8 o'clock starting point and don't make them look like they are dead and falling off the gauge or revving too high during normal speeds.

BTW, welcome to the all new 3-series BMW.
