Best Year for The LS460?
I'm debating buying a low mileage 2004-2006 LS430 vs getting a higher mileage LS460. I know the price is different for the two but wanted to get some LS460 owners thought on the reliability of the LS460? How's the maintenance on the LS460. The 430 is apparently a tank and I've a few places that the early 4th Gen models 2007-2010 LS460's had issues with the control arm, brake actuators, etc.
What is everyone's thoughts? Thanks in advance.

The best year is the newest one you can afford. They got better every year.
The LS460 is more complex than the LS430, there is more to go wrong vs the 430 which is a pretty simple car all things considering. You should have a sizable budget for repairs with either car, but I think on the whole an 07 LS460 is likely going to cost more to maintain and repair than an 06 LS430...as an example.

Honestly, if you are seriously concerned about repair costs...you should get something much newer and less complex. Like a Camry or something. The LS430s are super old, the 460s are also super old, and way more complex unless you're going to buy a relatively new one you have to want this sort of car more than you need a low maintenance car.

Oh, by a wide wide margin, but its still nit a Camry. I would say if you aren't willing to pay for some expensive repairs you shouldn't buy ANY car in this class.

If you appreciate the luxury of Lexus and especially LS, there is no need to consider Toyota anything.
If you are concerned with repairs then do this: Assume your budget is $12,000. Buy a car that costs $9,000 - $10,000 and save that couple of thousand dollars for potential repairs. If the car is in good condition, it should be more than enough to cover any unexpected repairs at an independent mechanic.
That way you still get a much better car than Camry, with no headaches, just like Camry.
Now, of course if you have the budget for a $5,000 car, then probably even a very old LS won't work for you.

If you want to buy a LS430, just remember that these cars are now upwards of 18 years old. No matter what you read about them, all cars will have issues. You should certainly expect to have maintenance on that car. If you like the look and the interior plus the ride, and are willing to forgo more current tech, then get a 430. The LS460 is way more car than a 430. In my opinion, it's much sportier, has a way better looking interior, and has a more current tech package. Not knowing your budget, if you are looking in the 07-12 years, get the 11 or 12. Most of the items people say go wrong have been addressed in those two years as well as the 2010. But I recommend the 11 or 12. No matter what, when buying an older car, be prepared to have things happen. Have a good Lexus or Toyota independent shop available to do any work. You'll save money staying away from the dealership.
