I may need to sell my car in the near future. I spent the last couple of years spending more money than I had like many a college student has been guilty of. Now that I am about to join the work force I can see the error of my ways.
I got my SC300 about a year and a half ago and proceeded to drop about $3,000 on stereo and alarm, not to mention the work I had done on the general health of the care. Timing belt plus full tune-up, spark plugs the works. New brakes, new radiator (old one started to develop a small crack,) etc.
Anyways the blue book value is about $6,500 for my car with 160k miles. I have the Python alarm system with remote start and keychain monitor. Elemental design E12A 12" sub with custom box (sort of looks like a trapezoid extending from the front of the trunk with an amp mounted on both of the angled sides). Avionnix 400.2 powering CDT mid/high components in the doors. Avionnix 800.2 powering the sub and a beautiful Alpine 7998 headunit with a nice custom install to fit the large hole left by removing the old unit. Oh, and I tinted the windows.
I need to know if all of this work can be translated into a higher selling price to a private party. I obviously can't trade the car in with all of this aftermarket stuff, but since it is $3,000 worth of nice work that the buyer would not have to do, I figure I can recoop some of the expenses.
youd be better off removing as much of the system as you can and selling it. But you wont get that much more that what the car is worth with the stuff you have in it now.
I usually hear people saying that if u can re-coup 40% of mod expenses then u r doing well. It's all in finding the right buyer - some punk *** kid with too much money and not enough sennse will give u a lot more for the mods than an older person!!

very true usually its the teenagers who tend to buy the moded out cars so they can show off to thier friends. it wont be too hard to get back 40% if you part out the stuff you added. but that would just be extra work for you.
I don't really have any solid plans of when I am going to try to sell it, but if you are interested and the price is decent, I could probably move on it whenever.
well i'm not into stereo or anything, so, you could keep all that if you wanted. only issue is, i'm in chicago. i'd be willing to come get it though, just extra money i hafta spend on travel and gas and stuff. i don't mind though. give me a nice long drive with my new toy, lol. well, how much you want for it? haha. don't mean to rush ya, take your time, but if you decide to sell, i wanna be first to know. but what were you looking to get for it?
