'02 LS 430 with $28K spent on service at the Lexus dealer
Just purchased a 2002 LS 430 with ultra luxury package and am extremely happy with the car.
The car had a single owner prior to me, and that owner exclusively took the car to the Lexus stealership for service.
The attachment below is the complete service record from the dealer. It shows that total amount of $$$ spent on service there was $28k.
I of course wanted to ensure that the timing belt and water pump had been done. My questions:
- Please see page 4 of the PDF (where I left a red star) and you'll see that "REPLACE DRIVE BELT" was done at 66K miles. Is this the timing belt?
- Please see page 3 of the PDF with a red star and you'll see the 90K service was performed by the dealer. I presume THIS is the timing belt?
- Page 2 of the PDF with red star shows that the customer paid $750 just for the Lexus dealer to "CHECK TIMING BELT" due to a P1346 code.
- Is it me or is the water pump not on here anywhere? is the water pump included in one of the earlier service intervals?
Thanks!

Lexus recommends timing belt at 90,000 miles (if timing belt was changed would expect it to say it was)
Is there a sticker in the engine bay showing timing belt service is done?
Unfortunately no sticker showing a timing belt change in the engine bay.....
But it's hard to believe that it wasn't changed considering that the 90K service was performed and that almost $30000 was spent on service.

Wow! Reading that is pretty fascinating. Really the only surprising thing on that report is the vvti solenoids going bad, especially at that mileage and with that thorough of a service history (p1346 code).
It’s a very safe bet the timing belt was replaced at 90k. I mean, that’s literally what the 90k service is.
Seems like you got a very well cared for vehicle where money was no object. Congrats!

(Does "mount and balance 4 tires" mean new tires were purchased?) Would ask what was done to be certain, as no sticker. $2046.21 was spent on something 10/28/09....
The attached service records are not in the Lexus service format. I suggest that an actual Lexus service report for all Lexus service be obtained from mylexus.com. That will show what actual service was conducted for each item by the dealer. No sense in guessing when the actual service reports can be obtained.

If I'm not mistaken, when I was new to the game in 10/16, I scoured the web trying to figure out how much a dealer gets for a timing belt/wp. Starting at the dealers' websites, some actually list out what a 90k, 180k costs, what it includes. I remember thinking that VA dealer was cheap, under $600, then I noticed it didn't have the TB/WP. Same dealer as on the pdf. I eventually found what I didn't want to know, $1400 no idlers/tensioner at 90k, $1800 with (dealer pricing) 180k. There's no reason for a report as detailed as one that states the SA's name, to not state TB if it were actually done. my .02 Also if we take that 28k as fact, it illustrates how expensive a Lexus is to maintain (back in '17 I was standing at a dealer getting touch up paint and a guy with a 2 y.o. '14 GX was irate about a multi thousand dollar service). DIY and indies change that of course.
edit No question a lexus is overall more reliable, just that the dealer service model is how they get their revenue, where same job, same parts, costs more than others such as european cars. Like a cheaper laser printer with expensive toner, etc. Catastrophic issues with German cars of course cost a ton, and they are rare with Japanese cars. I'm saying two cars, long term, no catastrophic failure, both serviced at the dealer.
