Observe the double touch panels, and omission of mmi touchpad

audi is going back in time.

They even brought back the slab side.

A very boring exterior, a little better than volkswagon.

Completely agree. Based on their latest interior/exterior designs, they don't really seem like they know what they want the brand to be. A bit lost really. (I am a fan of where they are going with lighting, self-driving tech as well as drivetrain tech - check out CarWow's review of the new A7, the rear wheel steering system is leaps and bounds better than what's in our '15 GS F-Sport)

I doubt we'll see Mercedes and BMW follow suit. Reviewers who have sampled the latest Audi products with MMI Touch (dual touch screen system shown in the photo) haven't been too keen on the system as it's distracting to use while driving, more than past systems.

Back in fashion for who?

Not buyers, many owners absolutely hate touchscreens, annoying touchscreens or mouse systems are one of the biggest complaints with modern automobiles. Automakers love touchscreens because they are cheaper to do then buttons and switches and they think for some reason they are improving a interiors looks by getting rid of all or most of the buttons but what they are doing is making them all look the same and look boring, plain, and dull. The new Audi interiors are a step back and are no longer considered industry leaders.

What??? The new interiors are whats driving sales through the roof. The virtual cockpit is a huge hit and Audi is doing better than ever. The reviewers are raving about their new interior designs. Exterior designs are typical Audi.

Count me in the "I hate touchscreens" group. Literally the only thing my wife and I don't like about our Highlander. My wife drives the Highlander the most, and really misses the remote touch she had in her previous RX.

I work in commercial aerospace design, and we have always used a "remote touch" type control (we call them CCDs, or Cursor Control Devices) for the crew to interact with the displays. We are now starting to use touchscreens and I hate them. It is not an improvement at all.

What Lexus needs is a better remote touch and infotainment design/software, not a touchscreen.

I can go either way and do not own a vehicle with a configurable dash screen. But I do like it in theory, and I do like it in my sis in law's Audi. Wasn't this technology already on a 2007 MB W221? That's 11 years ago so not new by any means? Or maybe I am confusing "touch" with screen. People did it all the time back in the day, mistaking IP telephony with IP phones. Maybe this thread is more about the endpoint and not the technology which is old.

Touchscreen or not, Audi is on a roll with record sales every month. They are not far off from whoever is in 3rd place.

I think they know exactly what they are doing. They are catching up to 2nd and 3rd place at a record pace in sales in the U.S.

Agreed. They seem to be doing things right.

For some reason I dont like the new Audi interiors. Just feel they are not as nice as the older versions. That said, the virtual cockpit and their offerings seem to be working.

Completely agree with this point. I regularly go between remote touch and touch screen depending on which car I'm driving, but at the end of the day, the Lexus experience is slow and laggy.

Is it even possible to get e remote touch type of system to operate as fast or quicker than a touchscreen?

I also think their new powertrains are hitting it out of the park so that could contribute to their current success. With that said, I personally think the latest Audi interiors are best in class and prefer them over even Mercedes. I know...blasphemy

Perhaps it is the powertrains. I don’t follow Audi as much as other brands. Of course I like the TT very much. We sat in the new A8 at the Toronto auto show. It was nice, closer to the previous version. The infotainment screen looks good and is interesting. I like the LS design better as it is far more interesting.

I do like the E class coupe a lot, I think it is a very nice looking car inside and out. The sedan version not so much. S class is getting boring
