Default My New 2010 LS460L!

Well, I finally pulled the trigger on a new-to-me LS460L! After a couple of ‘near misses,’ I decided to go with a 2010 AWD LS460L from my local Lexus dealer.

The car is smoky granite mica with black interior, which is a great look for the LS I think. The windows have been tinted (as much as legally possible in Nebraska), and the car really has an imposing look. This car was previously owned and cared for by the previous used car sales manager, and has a very good Lexus service history. It has 91k miles, but has been really well cared for and drives great (just getting broken in ;-).

I had looked this one over last week, but held off until there was a price drop (no negotiating possible at my Plus dealership). I did get the dealer to agree to provide new, premium floor mats (the $260 ones), which I had on my LS600hL (totally worth the extra money, in my opinion). I ended up paying $21,600 (before tax), which is roughly $1600 below KBB retail for this car. The dealer had done some reconditioning to make the car look flawless, including spraying both bumpers and doing some PDR. I don’t think I got a great deal on the car, but I think the price was fair and I know the dealer will stand behind the car if anything crops up soon after the purchase.

I should get the car on Tuesday, and I can’t wait to get back into the LS line! I’ll do a super deep cleaning after I get it (the Lexus dealer does a decent job of detailing, but I’m pretty picky). I’ve attached a couple of photos from my test drive last week, and will post more once I get it fully cleaned up.

I’m contemplating buying a warranty on the car from my bank (USAA). I can get 24 months if full coverage for around $2400. Seems silly, I realize, but the front air shocks and control arms haven’t been replaced on this one, and I have a feeling I might get my money’s worth out of the warranty (this particular warranty does cover both of hose suspension items). I did check the VIN against the control arm TSB and was happy to discover that this car was produced after the cutoff for the problematic control arms, so I may never have a problem.

Thanks to the forum for all the support on my quest to obtain another LS!

Congrats on your 2010 LS 460L. Did you get that at Lexus of Omaha? That is where I get most of my dealership stuff done when we are in Omaha visiting my sisters as we have no Lexus dealership in NWA.

GO BIG RED

Yep, Lexus of Omaha. This car used to be owned by Fred, the used car sales manager. Did you ever work with him? Nice guy. He drove the LS on a long trip to Anchorage Alaska and really babied the car.

The car is fairly basic for a 460L. It has the air ride suspension, advanced parking package, rear side sunshades. But no DRCC or precollision package. Black interior is in great shape. I’ll post more photos after it’s all cleaned up.

Here’s a link to the ad for the car (still up): https://www.lexusofomaha.com/Vehicle...-NE/3146146853

Great looking car! The grays always look good on big luxury cars, in my opinion.
If you are looking to go with an extended warranty, you may want to check around.
For a 2012 LS460, I was able to get 5 1/2 years/48k miles comprehensive exclusionary warranty from a high quality carrier (CNA) for $2,500.
I'm not sure how many miles you will put on yours per year, but you would at least get the 48k miles.

Good luck with the nice ride!

Congrats on the sweet ride.

Looks like you paid a good price for the peace of mind knowing that the LS460L was very well-maintained by one of the managers at the local Lexus dealership.

And from the snow pile shown in the background in one of your photos, the AWD LS460L is a wise choice for driving in snow storms.

Congrats rik! Seems ours are identical aside from the exterior color

With 91K on it, and the AWD system, I'd recommend draining, inspecting, and filling fluids on the trans, front differential, transfer case, and rear differential. I recently had to replace the front diff due to what looked like water intrusion. Used parts weren't too much but labor to replace was 20+ hours. Will be good peace of mind to know that those pieces don't have issues currently and have fresh fluids in them going forward.

Good idea! I do know that the dealership just completed the major 90k mike service on the car. I’ll ask them what (if any) fluids were changed during that service. Thanks for the tips!

True! I had found a pristine 2008 LS460L that I really wanted to buy, but I couldn’t get past the annoyance of having to swap tires every winter to make it through the snowy Omaha weather! I think I’ll be happy I went with the AWD model!

Congrats man! Thats great. Man, those are some beefy tires (I'd ditch those ASAP lol), looks like the headlights could use a polish too, but looks awesome. The SGM is my favorite color, I wish they still made the LS in that color. I prefer that to the nebula I had on the 2015.

I think you will like the black interior. I really like mine.

Thanks Steve! The car drove surprisingly well with these ‘beefy’ Goodyear G-Force Comp 2 tires. These tires get decent reviews for traction (probably because they’re so beefy), but I’m sure the ride would be way smoother with some nice Perelli’s or Michelin’s. I had the dealer work on the headlights to clear up the haze, but I might need to take the car to a professional headlight restorer to get them crystal clear again. I’ll try to not put much money into this car initially—the whole idea in buying an older LS was to save some $$. I do want to have the Prestigious Society DVD bypass installed. I see those are in sale now for $229, and my independent shop can install fairly easily.

I would also spring for the warranty IMHO, with the air suspension...

What does the DVD Bypass do?

It tricks the car into thinking it’s in Park while it is being driven, allowing the Navigation screen to be used and allowing movies to play on the front screen while the car is in motion (to entertain passengers, of course ;-).

Hi RiknChar, Congrats on the beautiful car! Looks like you were quite anxious to get back into an LS! Gorgeous color, and the car looks great inside and out. Happy driving!
