Default Toyota will build second model at French plant, paper says

ARIS -- Toyota will invest 400 million euros ($488.96 million) to build a second model in its factory in Valenciennes, northern France, a business newspaper reported.

Toyota builds its Yaris subcompact hatchback at the plant.

A new model underpinned by the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) will be added, Les Echos reported on Friday.

Toyota will announce the news on Monday in the presence of French President Emmanuel Macron, the paper said.

The company employs some 4,000 staff at the plant.

Yay, new small suv is coming... for mostly american audience, C-HR is midsize, rav4 is large and highlander is gigantic :-).

This should be based on same platform as Yaris (cheaper suspension), while C-HR was based on regular TNGA that will go into next RAV4 as well.

So you believe that it will be another, even-smaller crossover, and that it is headed to North America?

I don't doubt your insight. I just find it interesting.

It probably makes more sense than Yaris hatch in NA.

Turkish Toyota factory just reported tfew days ago hat they have became the biggest Toyota factory in Europe by output and they have record production due to the C-HR. This is also likely a plan for French factory to increase their production and make them more profitable. By default, small cars are less profitable than large ones, so this is likely their plan to increase profitability.

And believe it or not, there is space in European market for even smaller than Yaris based SUV, so 2 sizes below C-HR.

Suzuki has great little suv called Ignis, thats only 3.7m long.
