Blower motor resistor replacement
Hey Gang!!
Just got a very, very nice 2002…excellent maintenance history…took it in just to have it looked over and to diagnose a climate control issue. The car checked out beautifully…just as past records indicated. However, the diagnosis of the Climate issue was a resistor for the blower…to replace both would be $1200.00+!!! Yikes!!! Went to another shop and a similar estimate.
Im hoping that maybe, just maybe someone here may have a DIY idea? I kinda figured I might be in trouble when there was absolutely nothing on YouTube!
Cheers Y’all!!!!

The LS430 and GS430 are very similar to our cars.
Here is a video on how to change the module in a GS430. I am *ASSUMING* the procedure is very similar (though not exact)
You can buy a used one off ebay for about $50 or a new one from the dealer for $300

My repair manual's electrical diagram shows a Blower Motor Controller and I'm assuming that is what your repair company is calling the resistor. My diagram doesn't show a standalone resistor.
I recently changed out an HVAC servo and made a video of the changeout. Here is a screenshot of what I believe is the Blower Motor Controller.

It's pretty easy to get to. Drop the passenger side footwell trim panel (just pulls down) and the glovebox (two 10 mm bolts, two Phillips head screws, and five electrical connections). It appears that the Blower Motor Controller is held in place with one screw. There are 2 electrical connections plugged into the Controller.
If I am in error with identifying the device and its location, I'm sure someone will correct me. Good luck with the repair.
