Default USB/Aux Adapter for 2003 SC430

Hello all,

I am trying to find a USB/Aux adapter for my 2003 Lexus SC430, mainly so that I can play music from my phone while charging it. If it also allows me to use the dashboard and steering wheel controls to change the music that would be phenomenal too, but not necessary.

The Grom USB-3 ("98-05 Toyota Lexus USB Android iPod iPhone car kit") sounds like it would have been the ideal adapter, but it looks like it only works for models 2005 and later (According to Grom's website).

1) Does anyone know if the Grom adapter can be made to work on a 2003 (despite Grom not including it)?
2) Anyone have a better viable solution with USB?
3) If there is no USB adapter that can be made to work with the 2003 and I therefore go the Aux route, anyone have recomendations for an Aux adapter that works? (Is the VAIS SL3u-L the way to go?)

Sorry I can't help with your question Mike, but your post raises a related question. Is anyone using the Grom USB-3 adapter in their 2006-2010?

I'm currently using a cheapo FM/Bluetooth adapter that was cheap, but works surprisingly well. It is also outfitted with USB charging receptacle. However, this way of adapting one's phone leaves much be desired. For instance, one must leave the antenna up, and the sound quality is just OK, not great.

Sorry to hijack the op's thread, but I'm in the same boat for my newly purchased '07 SC.

In the past I've used the GTA Car Kit with fair results in a '05 Honda Pilot.

The GTA Car Kit and the Grom are about the same price.

The problem I have with my GTA Car Kit as it often doesn't connect to both Bluetooth functions. It always connects with the phone part, but seldom connects with the audio part. The adapter is over 5 years old though.

Is the Grom any better?

I bought an Alexa auto and used an old cassette tape aux adapter. I plugged the Alexa auto cigarette power adapter(provides 2 USB ports) into the center console power socket and plugged the cassette tape aux adapeter into the Alexa auto. Alexa auto bluetooths to my phone and provides multiple microphones and uses the cassette tape to provide tape input from the alexa into the stereo. The only thing I don’t like is the volume levels are inconsistent. Still working on that. Also can’t play cd’s or radio at the same time as using the phone. I really want to get car play or some other alternative, but this was my quick fix.

The Alexa auto sits in the ash tray and the aux plug from the Alexa pumps the Bluetooth from the phone into tape input. Alexa provides 8 microphones!

A previous owner must have done something similar because there was a small hole already in the bottom of the ashtray compartment. I snaked the aux to tape wire, the usb power for the Alexa and an extra usb lightning power cable for my phone through there.

I plugged the lightning cable and the Alexa power cable into the 2 port cigarette power adapter in the center console.

Good morning SC forum, just visiting from the 2GS forum, and couldt help but catch your interest in having a proper terminal to allow access for your phone?
This was a constant gripe over i. Sport sedanland. All available technologies compatible with a car from the turn of the millennium are crap compared to the modern methods. I was considering purchasing a aftermarket stereo at 1 point! That’s pretty embarrassing. Finally a crafty member pulled his factory head unit out, opened it up and was able to determine a way to add a 3.5 six jack to the face of the stock stereo. Nobody believed it could be handled so seamlessly and the mod could be handled by anyone. I did it to my own and I struggle to add new contacts to my iPhone without a teenager around for guidance. If anyone would like to know more. Just wonder over to the DIY section of 2GS and scroll down til u see the add Aux jack to factory radio. I will include a link if I get time.
Have a good day everyone
