I looked at a 2006 today with 26k miles on it. The car was nice all around. When I took it for a test drive there was a slight shimmy at 60 mph. The owner said he had front shocks replaced. He had work order ticket from local Lexus dealer. He has also recently replaced wheels and tires to correct the issue. Still there. I told him I would take the car if he fixed the shimmy. He agreed to do so. Any thoughts out there what the cause might be?
Thanks,
Scott
- it might be the front wheel bearings. I just did mine at about 60000 miles (March 2025). The car sat in storage for months on end for years and only got driven in the summers . The bearings got dry. Since they were replaced, it has gotten a lot smoother. I still have a different kind of shake that is probably caused by the hard tires I have on it . They are getting replaced soon, along with all 4 shocks/struts since they are 17 years old. The next item after that is the rear CV axles. The boots are like concrete hard . The right rear axle supposedly has a carrier bearing which may also be contributing to some shaking .
