Anyone used their OEM Nav screen for a backup camera? I know it's got poor resolution, but I was wondering if it's good enough to use for backup camera. I'm not trying to read with it...just want to make sure I'm not backing over something or someone...also that I'm not dropping off the curb (our driveway was designed by sadists) or hitting other vehicles, mailboxes, or trash cans.
Hi Herb. First things first. Yes, we have used the NAV Screen for a backup camera display. And in the spirit of the holidays, I'm offering a gift, a gift of knowledge. At the top of the page is a search button. Start there and type in Backup Camera. You will find sooooo much information that has been contributed over the years. A tiny bit from myself, and more from moderators, professional installers and just plain ole enthusiast. When you can't find an answer to a question, come back. We're always here. But you would shock everyone if you asked a question about backup cameras that hasn't already been touched on. The same applies to the sound system, nav upgrades, Bluetooth etc. Good luck.

Thanks. I see that people have suggested using it as backup camera when I did search (nothing directly comes up with just that as a search...which is why I asked) but I didn't see anyone who's done it posting pics or how good the resolution was on the OEM nav screen. I'm not looking for 4k...but I'm trying to find out if it's better than Atari.
I was trying not to have to search through larger threads like 'what have you done to your SC430'. I'm sure it's probably in there...just trying not to search through 50 pages of other improvements. A. For time. B. To reduce temptation.
Also...I don't care about future use of the NAV system. Without digging into the car...what type of connections does the OEM nav screen have?
Will I need to get the 'Beatsonic' or other brand wire harness to hook into it with a camera? Or should I be able to just plug right in if I disconnect the Nav?
I'm in the same boat (06). Did you do it and if so did you lose the Bluetooth phone? If you did it, what did you use and are you happy with it? I'm considering adding Sirius to OEM radio and BU cam to avoid replacing radio. Thx

I put a $240 Kennwood head unit in...it wasn't hard. Got bluetooth for music & phone that way...so far I really love it. I've already upgraded the speakers with ones that were made for home stereo...but work great!
I bought a 7" monitor from EBAY for the backup camera and took apart the screen unit from the Lexus factory...I'm waiting on 90 degree plug to be able to put it back in the factory case.
Since I was loosing the NAV from the Lexus (removal of head unit) anyway I just decided to make it an all time rear camera.
I'll keep you posted... BUT...I've got to figure out how to power the screen & put it all in the factor set up. That could be a challenge before it's over. I'm not sure what I need to keep to have the open/close remain. I'm also here trying to figure out if there is power I can tap into for the new screen in the harness (I'm 99% sure there is)...my adapters should all be here tomorrow or Monday...then I can start putting things back.
Keeping in mind that mine is a 145K mile 'fun car'...not a show car or daily driver. If it doesn't work...I'll just leave the top closed & plug in rear view camera to the new head unit. I thought it'd be cool to have the above one working and ability for other video ins...also being higer up makes it more natural when backing up...so you can also check mirrors easier / faster.
