My temp gauge is always at that same point, about a quarter to 9. And, do the ECU reset. Made a very noticeable difference on my car when I did it.

Glad that helped. I have heard it is a known issue with the ecu "learning". I would suggest a reset every 6 months or so. Easy enough to do.

Something's wrong if the thing doesn't fly off the line. That 4.3 is very eager when prodded.

Put it in "pwr" mode for the more aggressive transmission programming and use a lead foot for a while, it should adapt assuming everything is okay.

Default Learning transmission feature?

I keep hearing individuals mention that if the car seems slow, it may be due to the learning tranny. What is this? My car also seems pretty slow if the line so I just use the semi manual feature and it becomes more responsive. But sometimes when I drive with the car on D, it is fast and sometimes it’s not. When you guys mention that learning transmission, do you guys mean that it adapts to the way you drive? If that’s the case, that is the coolest thing I’ve ever heard. And it makes sense because my mom uses the car a lot And she drives slow! Wheel I achieve more responsiveness and acceleration off of PWR ECT mode, or using the semi-manual feature? I was actually pretty scared of breaking the darn transmission from all the shifting! Do you reckon it would be even faster (acceleration wise) if I were to reset the transmission ECT (as stated above) and then use ECT PWR mode at the same time?

Default How would I go about getting those copies?

I have been doing a lot of research lately on this car, and it seems that they have a methodological solution for just about every problem! It is so cool how we have members who experience an issue, and some car guru comes in and says some magical steps to fix the issue. I am only 18 so I am not particularly good with cars, but I’m trying to learn. I don’t know much about the mechanical aspects of cars, how they work, where they are located, or even what they are called. So I hope I don’t annoy the sc430 owners. I know this car is more appealing to a different age group, but I just love this car! I have been doing research because there are several things I’m trying to fix on my car. My A/C is not working and so is my Convertible feature. When I press on the A/C nothing really happens. The vent in the left most position does have warm air come out a little though. The drop top button also does not work. I have read up that this will usually cause a red or orange light to come on, or make a beeping noise. This can be due to an electrical issue or obstruction in the mechanism if I’m not mistaken. However, I have found that my button simply does not do anything. No light, no noise, nothing. Are there any methods that might help me? I could really use some wisdom before I empty out my high schooler money pockets (they’re already empty lol). I am starting to believe that my panel is just not working at all. I am planning on starting to learn about the car and reading the manual so I have a better understanding. I also want to educate myself and learn how to check those fuses and stuff. It all seems complicated to me, but I’m sure I’ll learn. Thank you @Bgw70 for the constant replies, you’re very helpful!

have you located the how to search thread, located up in the stickies?

find a thread on HVAC issues and add your problem to that thread.
same goes for your top...plenty of threads on top issues.

Exshaust, do you know how to start a new thread? Start a new thread with your problem, you will have more responds and helps. Like BGW said, do the search on the particular subjects and spend sometime to read. You will learn and gain knowledge about your SC.

Our cars are controlled by a massive number of computers. Disconnecting the battery resets everything back to baseline basically. But then is supposed to have the ability to learn from your driving habits for the best driving experience.

Engine coolant temperature stays between 178 and 181 all the time per Torque Pro's continual readout on my 02. It's actually pretty amazingly stable through various driving conditions. With thermostatic valve working well, I wound't be surprised to see the analog temp gauge remain at same position.

If you want to reset the ECU without losing your seat and stereo settings, perform the following procedure:

1. Get in your car and insert key. (It doesn't matter if you close the door or not.)
2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position.
3. Press the gas pedal to the floor.
4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
5. Wait 2 minutes.
6. Remove key.
7. Done
Definitely do the above every two or three months. My SC430 has a definite bias to towards learning more lazy throttle response over time.
I keep a copy of the reset procedure in my phone's book library.

Keep in mind, the SC430 weighs almost 2 tons, far heavier than expected for car of this size. Too, with only 288 hp, you're not going get neck-snapping acceleration. The SC is a grand touring car, not a sports car. The heft results in a solid, comfortable ride as expected in any grand touring car.

One thing that improved my SC's quickness was changing out the very heavy 18" wheels with lightweight, 17" racing wheels.
