I would insert black foam on that top and bet you it will look good.

I think the foam will prevent the wood door from opening and closing potentially unless it’s a very thing strip

the metal bracket is a non-issue for those that chose to remove the wood door since there is a mounting piece that comes with silver trim that makes the radio flush with the climate control. The issue with that setup is sunlight exposure on your unit...I’m betting continued sun exposure on new headunit would wear down the display over time unless I’m mistaken.

you are correct! the foam would hinder the door movement.
