Would Like Your Thoughts
HI
I am not a SC 430 owner but a 2010 LS 460L owner. My youngest is interested in buying this 2005 SC 430. I have pulled the service history off of Lexus Driver and the service record I believe is excellent. Not an SC guy so I just wanted to ask the folks that know this model of Lexus what they think.

I would appreciate your thoughts on the costs and any other items you might have to offer on the 2005 SC 430's

Ok
So he bought the car and gave $13,900 which included tags, taxes and fees with 30 days or 1000 miles of warranty. The map data is outdated. How do you check the map data version date? I know how to check and see what version of map data is on my LS but not on the SC. Can he get an map data update and install it himself or is the SC like the LS where you just go into a Lexus Dealership and bend over?
Thanks for your thoughts

Congrats to your son! Good price.
Just for my case, I do not use the car navigation anymore. I use Waze from my phone, invested in an audio input into the head unit, so I can hear the audio of the Waze which has a Spotify app baked in, I am all set. I do have the latest dvd installed, which will cost a hundred or thereabouts form fleabay. Finally, I use a magnet to hold the phone.

Thanks for your thoughts but can you tell me how to check which version is currently installed? Here is the service history (I hope)

Congrats on the purchase, we have an '02 SC430 with the same color combination. You can find the version under Map > System I believe. We haven't used it though like mandyfig we've been using Waze. In fact we keep the little navigation door that opens automatically closed while driving. Your son will have many years of good driving out of that car!

Thanks I appreciate your feedback. I thought the SC 430 came with a 6 speed transmission starting in 2005? The ad said it was a 5 speed?

I think the 6 speed began in '06, but both are great transmissions. Nary a problem at all. As you know with Lexus as long as it's maintained it will run forever

I just had my 70K mile service on our 2010 LS 460L and I could not agree more. Since the SC 430's came with run flat tires does it have a spare? Surly not full size given the size of the trunk?

No, no spare came with run flat tires. Many folks here got rid of the run-flats and went with Michelin’s. You have to buy a spare tire kit, quite expensive, or you can try to find spare tires from a Camry or IS, which are cheaper.

Dennis, Most SC owners have ditched the horrible run-flats and gone with Michelin or Continental tires to improve the ride and handling. What to do about a flat tire then becomes an issue. My SC430 actually came with the fancy spare tire kit (a fairly expensive option). Many people just plan on calling AAA or using a "Fix-a-Flat" can to get them through a flat tire situation. I don't take my car on trips, so it's not much of a worry to me, and I do have a spare if a tire goes.
The 2005 SC430 had the 5-speed transmission. It works perfectly fine, though some prefer the 6-speed.
The Nav is next to worthless IMO. I have a vent mounted magnetic phone holder for my IPhone and use Google Maps or Waze when I need navigation. I did have a backup camera installed along with the Naviks system so I have a nice backup camera that plays through my Nav screen. This is a good upgrade, and costs roughly $250 total (installed) I believe.
The timing belt is overdue for a 2005 car, and there's a good chance it hasn't been done yet since the car hasn't hit 90K miles. You can purchase the full timing belt kit (made by Aisin, the OEM maker for Lexus) from Amazon for $161 and have a good independent shop install the new timing belt, water pump, tensioners etc. for around $400-500. Good for piece of mind, and way cheaper than Lexus charges. Here's the Amazon link:
Other than that, just enjoy the car! It will last a LONG time if properly maintained.

Regarding the Map DVD. Lexus no longer updates the GEN 4 Nav DVD which is the player in the 2005 model. . Here is a link to the part number info for the 2015 DVD. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...nal-discs.html
Some find the DVD on EBay.

Just to be clear. Version 15.1 is the last Lexus Update no matter what people put on their eBay titles (“Newest 2016...”) And, as in most cases with Lexus updates, the data contained on the DVD is typically about a year old.
I beleive that why many now are using other devices rather than the built in DVD player.

DJWLDW, I see that you have a 2010 LS460. I have been salivating on an LS for years now. I have an IS350, but am thinking of selling it and getting an LS. I saw 1 2010 LS460 on sale for $17K, has 105K miles on it. I want it! If I had a 3 car garage, I will keep the IS350. For now I want the LS.
