I plug in the Battery Tender anytime I think it'll be awhile before I take it out again. It's really a simple task. The above picture of the battery hookup shows where the battery tender hooks together. I routed mine to the near the wipers on the passenger side. I don't even open the hood to plug it in. One thing I did and recommend if you do that is to put a sign on the driver's window advising you it's plugged in. It hasn't happened but could happen if I drive out of the garage with it hooked up...YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT! LOL I noticed they've gone up in price since I bought mine. 29.95 now 59.95? Wow! I've had at least one SC since 2006 and bought the tender then per Club Lexus advise.

6- final question, do you guys just leave the battery tender on

1. I don’t think it will help. Lock door with key or key fob, your alarm is still on.
2. I also park in a garage so I just close door without turn the alarm on. It helps.
3. You might want to do that if your battery is old, I was on vacation in January and left the car for three weeks without battery tender, no problem starting the car.
4. Yup.
5. I do 2K a year. I used to have the battery drained problem, until I bough new Costco battery and battery tender. Everything is ok now.
6. You might want to do so. I don’t think it will hurt the battery, since it trickle charge.

I am pretty sure your car is locked, but the alarm is not armed.

As a long term rv’er with a large diesel coach batteries are the key part in the coach.

all batteries need to be charged at a voltage that is adjusted by the actual battery temps.

if you want the car battery to have a much longer life a Battery Temp Management System charger would be my choice.

A hot storage area needs a much lower charging voltage.

not sure if anyone makes a temp controlled trickl Charger?

I installed AGM batteries in my three intermittent use vechiles to lessen the temp controlled charger needs.

So you have only had the car for a month (ha ha)

I would get a new battery if this is the first time you have had the problem. Or check the trunk light issue. It is possible, the trunk wasn't closed all the way and the lights drained your battery.

In Arizona it is Hot and Dry so we figure batteries only last two years on average. Some people in AZ pre-emptivley swap them out, since you have to replace them eventually no matter what. Better to replace them on your schedule than to be stranded in the heat of summer.

All that to say, if your battery is older, swap it out before you buy a tender

No, it will nốt lock your car if you just turn off the engine, remove the key and slam the door.
Oh, I got you, you meant lock it with the key only. I think the alarm will aim, look at the blinking red light.

turns out the battery tender plus IS temp compensated.

if I liven in Az a AGM battery would be my choice. If a optima red top is available it’s spiral wound design should help in the heat.

The two together would give the best long term results IMO.

This thread got me to order a battery tender plus for my garage stored sc...

seems Kalifornia says the plus is not energy approved. What a crock

Ahhhhh. That's the confusion. When I say to lock your car, I mean to manually push the lock down on the door. Not using the switch at all. Not the lock switch, door switch or key fob.

Walmart has the Schumaker units for $19.99, I like them better than the tenders, they make stuff for Craftsman and have for years.

Hey Dshng

I actually had the car for 1 1/2 year .
The battery was new and I put in a new
battery from Lexus as soon as I bought the car.

This battery drain issue never happened until recently
but agsin I guess I haven’t really driven my 02 too much
about average 120 miles a month

My trunk was closed and maybe somehow the trunk light stayed on . Might just take the lights out as another option
I previously owned an 04, 03 and a 06.

The 02 I think has a bit more 1st year quacks
I know about the VSC light and the zero cabiration
and the negative camber issue with the tires.

Now I know about the battery drain issue ...

Replacing the trunk, map and door lights with LEDs will reduce the power drain considerably and help prevent those problems, if that is what is going on.

I have an 04 that I have had for two years...never had the battery go dead (and it sits in my garage almost all winter) and have not replaced the battery since I have had the car. Have read about this "battery drain" phenom several times on this forum...it seems that some cars have the problem and some do not. Have not seen anyone yet explain why this is or what causes it to exist in some cars but not others. Good luck.

I think "battery drainage" phenomenon is associated with old battery. I bough my 07 in Oct 2015, come about June 2016, I started to have battery drainage problem. Replaced with new Costco battery in Nov 2015 and did not have any problem since, even though I left the car sat for couple weeks while on vacation. Nevertheless, I bough a battery tender and keep the battery trickle charged when park for a peace of mind.

I agree, I started having the drain problem before I replaced my battery also. After the new battery, it stopped
