What version do you have in it right now? Here is a picture of mine showing the version.

my 06 sc430 still has the original disc in it, if I update it to the most current disc will it change the look of the graphics on my display or will it look the same?

I updated the NAV in my 2004 about a year ago. Got the latest available version for the 04. Actually, I could not tell much difference in it...just had more roads and addresses. Nothing changed about the look. Even the most updated version does not have the look that is in my 2015 GX460. I personally would not spend the money again.

To change to a more "modernized" interface (but def not as modern compared to any vehicle 2012+), you can always change the entire trunk mounted DVD player. Some members have done this and then bought the proper version of NAV DVD's to match that updated player. Seems like a waste of money to me for minimally better interface, so I didn't take it on, but power to those that did. I'm sure you can search for more info on this site under terms such as "SC430 DVD Player Upgrade."

This is another upgrade I have to do to my car. I believe the dvd reader is going out because sometimes it will only work for a few minutes and then freeze. I have the latest version and the interface works fine.

So much money going into this car -____-

You could try one of those CD disc cleaners. Might help.

I did the upgrade to Gen 4 because the Gen 2/3 nav DVD updates ended with 2013. I live in a fast growth area so get the new DVD every two years. The interface and Nav features are much better than the older gen but of course not comparable with a new car. I looked for a while on E-Bay until I found a used gen 4 player from a Prius for about $200; ones from older Camry's also work. I did the work myself and used the opportunity to install the Nav-Tool v2 as well.

We used to have a RX450 with the newer gen nav with the harddrive - only the dealer can do the upgrade from a thumb drive because they have to use their computer online with Lexus to do it using about two hours labor - ouch! I am very happing with the DVD still used in Gen 4.

SlvBullet...Don't mean to highjack this thread, but I would love some more info on this conversion. Do all Gen 4 DVD players work in our 2004 SC's? Did you have to rewire your Gen 4 or was it a plug and play operation? I would love to do this if you can give some more info. Thanks.

I just ordered a new DVD and look forward to using it. The one in my '05 already couldn't find one address the first week I got the car.

Default Sc430

I just bought new dvd for navigation system, guess my 04 has never been updated! I installed but does not work - reading some of your posts it should - so hum, what should I do? Do I need to upgrade the system itself? Or is there a trick to the install? Help please!

Hmm, mine worked right away when I put it in. Maybe you got the wrong generation disc for the 04? Is that possible? This says you would need Generation 2 or 3's disc, did you get a Generation 4 by any chance? http://www.lexusnavigation.com/what-to-order/
