Default Top wear and tear??

Was wondering if sc430 owners put up the top every in and out of the garage or maybe just put
a cover over when doing a lot of summer time driving..Maybe sounds dumb but I was just thinking
about it seems like would save wear and tear on top from going up and down....(???)

....I basically leave my top up all the time, even in the garage, until I decide to do some topdown driving. I haven't had an issue with the top & wouldn't really think there would be alot of wear & top from dropping it as needed (just my opinion). In my usage, I've driven the car more times when the weather wasn't "perfect topdown" condition, than when it was. Also a cover would definitely help, if you decide to leave the topdown when it's in the garage, it would help keep alot of dust out of the car

Because I'm fortunate enough to have a Lexus SC400 and a Lexus LS430 to fall back on, I lower the top on my SC430 on May 1st and raise it Oct. 31st. Of course it lives in the garage and comes out only on perfect top down motoring days. You're mileage may vary. Lol.

I never worry about the wear and tear. If I'm running down to the local store on a nice day, I lower it. When I get there, I raise it before going in the store. Out of the store, lower it, pull in garage - raise it. Takes about 30 seconds. I don't leave it sitting in the sun with the top down unless I'm riding in it.

Here is a discussion from awhile back about convertible top maintenance. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc4...ing-in-sc.html

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing the other day. I have a clean garage where the SC430 spends the night. I wonder how many TOP UP upon arrival in the garage and TOP DOWN upon leaving the garage cycles I have gone through in the last 10 years. Lets conservatively say 200 per year and that's 2,000 cycles that really were, when you think about it, kinda needless.

Too late now!

Well, both of my convertibles get parked in the garage as they entered. If top was up it stays up. Top down stayed down.driven or not a couple times a week the interior is cleaned and vacuumed. I see it as no different really than parking in the garage with the windows rolled down.We all do things differently though.

use the top as much as you can. tons of gears to get gummed up from sitting. opening the top normally and letting it cycle routinely keeps the juices flowing. the only ones ive seen fail are ones that don't ever get used.

I had my SC430 for 14 years and never had a problem with the top. A search of this forum should show that problems with the top are rare.
