I think you're referring to the parking lamps on the side of the headlights. The DRL are part of the highbeam circuit. The highbeam bulb (7005 IIRC) has two filaments. The low beam is a completely different bulb (an HID) in a different compartment of the headlight housing. During the day the smaller filament of the highbeam is triggered and only lit at about 25%. Then when you flick the highbeam, the other filament activates giving 100% brightness, and also turns off the foglights. I have replaced my high beam bulb with a LED which doesn't not have this dual filament feature, therefore only a portion of the LED honeycomb is illuminated with DRL function, and then with highbeam the other 2 rows illuminate. Much less brightness and a nondirectional beam. But I never use highbeams anyway, so no loss for me.
Indeed. I'll have to look a little more closely. The only lights I have noticed on during the day are the parking lights (horribly ugly yellow!) I had always assumed that was what everyone was referring to when they say DRLs.
So the mod in this thread would tap into the high-beam harness the line feeding the second filament, and then wire that to a separate set of lights then?

I knew you were.
....hey Retro...If your light switch is set to off & that "ugly yellow" light is the only one that is visible when you're driving, then that is indeed your highbeam headlight. As Shawn was mentioning, this bulb gets very little power to it, thus creating that yellowish look. This is your daytime running light (DRL). If you turn your highbeams on, then this bulb gets full power. Now there is a parklight bulb, but it is completely separate & should give an orange glow
She fell in love with the purple and begged me not to repaint it. So, I do have that argument.
Regarding the border. Yeah we've joked about that. Haha. But things are going to change soon (trying not to bring politics in here.)
It's going to cost me at least as much as that car by the time I am done.
No politics intended, I too was just joking...it is refreshing to see people, like you and the Mrs., with the integrity to do things the legal way! Thank you and I sincerely hope the state dept works quickly for you both!
I ordered a few of the LED lights from Amazon and they were back ordered. Finally showing up this week. I plan on installing a set on the RX. I h between the Thundercloud Edition grille so I can slide it in between the slots, much like the SC.
Not sure if it will ok on the IS, do not think so.
