W, hat glue would have suitable strength yet possibly be removed w.o a scar/scrape?
IMHO, thos dollar tree cups are puny and scary-cheap. these are "practical and fun":

What if, you stop by Starbucks or Seven Eleven and pick up a cup of coffee for your morning? For sure you will end up with coffee spill on your console.

Probably either the spring is broken or loose or it got glued shut from a spilled drink.

You can push on it and it moves but just won’t pop open? IDK

When you push it in, can you grab the edge and pull it out? If you can, it is likely the spring. If you can't, it is likely a broken piece stuck down in it. Either way, I'd recommend that you pop that part of the center console out and get a visual on what is going on. That is what you'll have to do to fix it most likely anyways.

@GmanSC I am late to the thread, and in need of these cups:-) Do you still have any of these? I'd love them! I am in the LA area, and sometimes drive down to OC, but I'd be happy to pay for shipping them:-)

If it helps, Dollar General still has them (at least they do by me). They are the drinking cup part of a water bottle/cup combo item.

Samo,
I still have 4 left. I’m happy to share. Check with Dollar Tree first to save time. If you could not find it, pm me. Either I will send to your address or if you ever be in OC, just drop by my house. Don’t worry about shipping cost.

Default Thank you!

@GmanSC You are so kind! Unfortunately I was unable to direct message you even after the friend acceptance because I am a new member and the requirements to be able to direct message are waiting 30 days and making 30 posts! Fortunately, I did not need to meet that criteria because today I was on a hike in orange county and passed by guess what… A dollar tree! They had them there! I am so delighted and I thank you for your kindness and letting us know about this fix!

Lightbulb another cup holder alternative

i've asked and these are no longer available at my dollar trees. searching for alternatives, i found these plastic cups in the party favors section of dollar tree. they looked the right size so i bought a couple to test. the bottoms fit perfectly.

they are easy to cut so i cut one down to two-thirds, and the other to one-third. the one-third height seems close to GmanSC’s snack cup.

my water bottles are pretty tall and so far i’ve been using the taller one. so far so good.

they came in various kids/cartoon themes. i decided against the disney princess cups and instead chose the star wars cup featuring grogu, stormtrooper, and i think boba fett. (yes, i'm a star wars fan!)

the colors not a bad match for my interior either. sorry for sideways/upside down pics. i don't know how to fix that. just thought i'd share another option.

Awww, they are so cute! And I'm impressed they work even upside down as in your picture!

the force is everywhere! lol 😄

after extended use, i settled on using one uncut cup to hold my tall water bottles, and one cut down to 2/3 to hold other stuff as most useful to me. the 1/3 cup is too short and doesn’t really hold anything.
