Cup Holder???????
Just got a SC430 and while I love my Wife's & Daughter's ES's this little convert has the worst example of a cupholder I have ever seen. I do like the cover-over with wood, so I don't want a uglly hole in the console......any of you 430 owners attacked this problem???

Moved the thread for you from the SC300/SC400 build threads..you will get better response here.

Thanks gerrb.
Yes 2ksoftail, the cup holder is rather pathetic. It will hold a cup like the old cup of coffee or a 12oz can but nothing realistically else. The only decent resolution that I'm aware of was by DiggerJim on 12/26/14 who said that he purchased a Mighty Cup. Apparently those have a way to grip the bottom. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...430-owner.html |
You are welcome ! I will have to start hanging around here too...lol, am looking for an SC430 and get the 2jzgte in it to complete my SC collection.
True , all the SC / MKIV generation cup holders are pathetic to say the least. Though it works out good for me. Because of it , my wife won't use or even ride on my toys.. hahaha. We love to have jumbo size drinks I guess ! |
I solved the problem by not allowing eating and drinking in my 07 SC430.

I wound up buying freestanding cupholders that sit on the floor board. (The ones I got were called octopus. They have a wide base and has an expandable opening to handle various sizes of cups, glasses, etc.). I only allow cups with lids on them.

Having owned this car for over seven years, it is now second nature to reach out and grab the cup when hard accelerating, braking or turning. Once I was driving with Habious and was turning to pull onto the parkway, and we both instinctively reached for the cup.

I agree, grabbing the cup or glass becomes second nature after a while. I almost just naturally put my hand on top of it. |
2ksofttail, if you decide to dump your cup holder, please let me know. I'd buy it off you. I broke a mechanism inside mine while trying to fix/find an annoying sqeak. Let me know what you think.

I finally bought a new one from Lexus. Think it was $100.
Works better, as my retainer piece was worn off. Expensive, but worth it as I don't reach for the cup anymore. |
Quick Fix by wife

Since my wife drives our SC more frequently, she figured out a quick fix and she just inserts and leaves the coffee sleeves (Starbucks) in the cup holder for some height extensions, works for her!! sorry for the BMW mug, her other vehicle is a 2015 X1... they had a promo, if you buy the mug they give you a X1 |
