SC430 2002 GPS replacement
Has anyone pulled the nasty old LCD out of an SC430 and simply swapped it with a modern Garmin portable? I'm on the edge of taking the dash apart once again.
All you need is a USB to power the Garmin, and it should automatically shut down when the power turns off.
Any help?
Thanks,

We are not the only ones asking! I asked the same question last year to the following party on this website but couldn't get a straight answer. I would also like to know if this is possible. Here is a screen shot on the website with a 7 inch screen.

02 SC430 GPS exchange for Garmin portable
I don't think this is a big deal, just a lot of hours. I've taken the dash apart and pulled the radio + AC controls out to repair the stereo. I may make a project of this, and will post photos / results when I do.
I would certainly make the modification with an easy to remove Garmin portable. This way, I can swap out the GPS with a shiny new, state of the art unit without dismantling the dash again. I find the Garmin hand held units blow the socks off the Lexus factory unit.
We had the $2,800 Nav package in our ES, and never used it, even with the latest 2012 software. It was junk at best, but very pretty to look at. I asked Lexus several times to change their system so the factory GPS would work while the car was moving. They suggested I stop the car wherever I was to input a new destination, look for gas, hotels ,etc. I replied this could be very dangerous on a busy highway when running low on fuel, or in a crime ridden, unfamiliar area in a strange city. I would never elect to purchase another Lexus with their nav package.

Update!!!!!
while on a drive talking to my wife about honey do projects I put my iPhone 6 Plus in front of my open nav screen
so I could concentrate on the road.
i left the car and remembered I left my phone in the car but freaked out when I couldn't find it....
then when I turned the car on and pressed the open button there was the iPhone in front of the nav screen like it belonged there!!!!!
now I have to figure out how to run power to it and get navigation audio from it
just a thought
