Recently changed plugs to OE Denso. Any benefit to changing coils as well? The car is running great, but has over 11 years. Thoughts? Please excuse my mechanical ignorance :-(

 

I think that is a very good question! the majority of us are car owners NOT mechanics. I have a 2002 SC and change my spark plugs every two years, need them or not. So when I had my car in at the dealer for a timing belt replacement I asked if the coils should be replaced? they said let us take a look and we will let you know. They said one of the coils need replacing because it looked cracked and the rest could be replaced as needed. Hope this helps a little.

When I changed my spark plugs I didn't notice anything wrong with the coils.
Just out of curiosity, I check the price for the OE coils.
I had no idea that they are so expensive, between 50 and 80 dollars EACH...

 

If the plugs are burning nicely, and you don't notice any skips (especially after everything warms up) don't bother changing them. I have cars with 175 kmiles on them and the original coil packs. Spend your money on something else for the car!

 

Hah talking about expensive coils. My BMW OEM coils cost over $200 each.

 

^^ That's the difference between the brands. Make it better, smaller and cheaper, that's the Japanese way.

 

That's why I own a Lexus. I have had German cars. They are just not built as well. My sc is 11 years old and drives (and looks) like new :-)

 

the only time you need to change one if have a miss then change one but check first witch one. if a miss.

 

Mate $50 - $80.00 each is very cheap for individual coils. You don't want to know how much the Merc ones are!! they are $350.00 - $500.00 each depending on the model. Yikes.
